: IHC 1 ton??
jeeper89 02-16-2007, 10:39 AM i dont know anything about IH vehicles but a friend told me he has a IH 1 ton?? did they make one?? and what axles and such would it have?? i know it is a manual tranny... but what about motor? he does not know much about it either.. any sort of info might help:D
The Fleckster 02-16-2007, 12:27 PM Yes International Harvester Light Line made 1 ton's. If its a D-series Pickup from 1969-1973 its fender designation emblem would be 1300 or 1310, 1974 and 75 its would be 200. Dana spicer axles was standard equipment. Optional axles (like my 1975 200 camper special) available would be the RA-15 1.5 ton rear end. Motor could be either 304, 345, or 392. Most likley a 345 or 392 in the 1 tons. FYI the ratings were grossley underrated. Many reports of hauling unbelieavalable loads have been verified and are common. From the Frames to the Motors the design was vastley based on beefier is better and Make it so the Farm boys dont break it mentality.
Search the web and Binder Bullitin for more info of this type. Most folks here modify ever so slightley above stock.:D

uglyscout 02-16-2007, 02:58 PM Just to keep you from peeing your pants in anticipation of finding a gold mine under an IH emblem...
IH did not offer a Dana 60 front end - You got either a D44 or a closed knuckle Dana 70 up front...

Just so everyone who is sitting glued to the puter wondering what i replied with:rolleyes:
Dana 70 closed knuckle with a "tracta-joint" rather than a U-joint between the stub and main axle. Should be passenger side drop. Sorry Non working camera at this time.

binderbound 02-17-2007, 08:28 PM I'm trying to buy a 71 1310 with the 70 front. It has an AMC 232 so not all 1300's had V-8's. It has some crazy ratio like 6.17's or something.

Wow, ya know i have never personelly seen a AMC 6cyc in a D-series:eek: IH did some good things and some bad things.
Ya 6.17 sounds like it might get it out of the hole with that monster motor:D
Post some pics after ya get it. Bet there is some serious room in the engine compartment.

Diesel Smoke 02-23-2007, 04:13 AM Hey Dan, Unless you've got plans for the cab, there is a certain buddy of our's up north who just bought a pimp 1510. Wonder if he needs it??:flipoff2:

Whats in the works??

Gonna end up cutting the windshield frame and cowell off and using it on my Wagonmaster. Along with the axles, driver side gas tank/fender, dash pad, etc. When we're done its gonna be frame and 1/2 a cab.
RustoleumWhite 02-23-2007, 01:23 PM Sounds similar to the plan for the #2 condition cab I have sitting in my yard. Since no one wanted to buy the whole truck its getting cut up. Bed's turning into a trailer, front clips going up for sale, and the cab was going to be cut up for eventual replacement parts for my Wagonmaster... but now it might sit around for a while to get swapped on to the 1510... all depends on how much room I end up with.
Actually Dan, since you seem to be collecting full-sizes lately, keep an eye out for another decent #2 or #1 condition truck/cab for the same reason... or a nice T-lette shell or a T-all shell....
If you can, save that back 1/2 of the cab and maybe I'll get it from you at Bee this year or next... I might have an eventual use for it and it would save another truck from meeting the sawsall. What do they say, one man's junk is another mans...... um... eventual junk :D

IH did offer a Dana 60, king pin, open knuckle front end. '75 only IIRC.

Prove it... Its listed in the spicer catalog but the IH build logs never show one used. We had a guy on the inside. Its been covered:shaking:

Sure. $10 a month storage fee, per item:flipoff2: I might have another decent cab coming up soon...I'll let you know.

now is this tracta-joint system weak?? is there a way to swap in a normal ujoint type axle??

If you recall -- HA!! NEVER!! And I really hope to eat crow on this one, the day someone shows me one.
Just 'cause you read (especially if you read it online) it doesn't make it so.
Even the last ones that rolled off the line in '75 had either a D44 or a D70 closed knuckle front.

Yeah, I suppose someone could have swapped a Dodge D60 under it, but its fun to dream, right?

Except they didn't. It says in the Q and A section that its a 70. Also, it looks like closed knuckles.

how strong are the front axles compared to a 60??
binderbound 02-28-2007, 08:55 PM how strong are the front axles compared to a 60??
From what I can tell they use a 1.5" inner shaft(coarse spline) and 1.3" outer(coarse spline) with a funky U-joint. Bigger than a 760-x but smaller than the 883-x or what ever a 60 takes.
What makes those axles really sweet is the 19* steering angle. With a 120" wb your turning radius is about 16 acres.

My '71 Travelette has the 'big ball' closed knuckle D44HD. With a 164" WB it has the turning radius of a cruise ship. Parking lots and gas stations suck!!! :flipoff2:

then this axle is not that strong?? would it be good for some 40s?? are there any after market shafts made for it??
Blind Driver 03-09-2007, 05:37 PM Go get a GM axle

I'm sorry. You must have been kicked in the head my a cow when you were born. 19* steering angle! Do the math. You can't turn it. Every turn would be a 14 point turn. Anybody make shafts for it?! Its COARSE spline with an oddball U-joint, yeah, call up Jack, he makes shafts for it:rolleyes:

hey its not my fault the cow kicked me it got out on its own. and i was talking about changing it to maybe 35 spline. and i dont care if i have to do 14 point turns let me decide if i want to do that or not. so either be nice and help or dont post at all:flipoff2: oh and thanks for your useless post

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e305/jeeper89/CIMG1113.jpg is this that optional 1.5 ton rear??? it is a 75' 200. i have a book on it but it does not tell me what the rear axle is. it does tell me that the front is a 70.
Diesel Smoke 03-18-2007, 06:01 PM The rear is an International RA-15 or 20. If you get one, you'd better be in love with it the way it is. Very hard to find new gear ratios, if not impossible and nothing but stock lockers.
RustoleumWhite 03-19-2007, 08:42 AM Looks to me like a '74/'75 1-ton, 4wheel drive dually. You might call it 'rare', but uncommon would be a better word, that wasn't a typical configuration. Technically a '200' is a 3/4Ton, but in '74 and '75 IH didn't offer a '1-ton', so they all were either half tons, 3/4-tons, or REALLY HEAVY 3/4-tons. Plus to get 4x4 and dually in the same package. VERY uncommon to find one that's not hashed to the ground. Heck, for a reasonable price I'm sure their are a couple of guys that would buy it from ya hands down.
edit, I see you already stated its a '75.
Keep it together, I like it, be a shame to hack it up, you could probably sell or even trade it for a D60F/14B combo if thats all you wanted, or even a complete clamped out military Chevy.
Looks like a nice, solid, clean rig. I would keep it exactly the way it is a use it or sell it to a guy that wants to use it as is. Make a good, cheap, HD tow rig. The axles are tough, especially in their given application, but you can do better for a wheeling rig, with much more aftermarket, or even stock replacement support.
gustav129 03-21-2007, 01:31 PM My '74 is a 3/4 2wd. They've had 1 tons for many many years. Hell, I learned how to drive in a '54 R-132 one ton dually in a field.
