Project slow me down is in the works. I started ripping the rear axle to little pieces getting it ready for the disk brake conversion and a lincoln locker..

The axle is out of a 98 Taco. 8.4 is the desigination I believe. Vs the 8" mini rear pumpkin.. 60" wide, GREAT clearance and still Toyota (okay okay I am very silly, but I like the toyota crap!!!) The axle will be moved back another 8" or so. right now I have 55 springs on the rear. so I am 3.5" back from stock. That should make my wheelbase at around 106" Plus I might do a SR in the front which will make my wheelbase closer to 108" Nice and stable.....

The front axle is going to be a FJ60 stock axle (well sort of) it will have all of my hy steer equipment, hydro, longfields and the lockright. Anyone got a set of Asin hubs that they want to get rid of?

Dual Toyota tcases (someone convince me to run a 4.7 in one of them) behind my SM420 will round out the mix quite well.

Anyone see any problems/concerns? I mean other than the "you have to put Dana 60's front and rear so that you do not break anything..." statements.

And the pumpkin..

It is cool, if I break a pinion it will not stop forward movement and check out the bearing supports!!

Looks great!

I am looking forward to the end result. That axle will be plenty strong...don't they make an Electric Locker for that?

:D

They do make an electric locker and it is only $700 from Toyota!!!

However it is the 8" variety and will not bolt into this carrier. Oh well, I do not see many reasons to have a selectable locker in the rear anyway..

I am going to keep the 38.5's and the six banger for a while. I am not unhappy at all with the power. On the trail I have never needed more power. Just a bit slower. Besides, the v8 has been done so many times already
I have something else in mind..

that taco axle looks nice and stout, are you going with it just for the centered 3rd?
and i take it you will be running toy mini cases? sounds nice.
i have been thinkin my own, and i think i want a non-us 5 speed with split case. not as low as SM, but toyota and thats what i like oh and while were at it, if one was goin to go v-8 wouldnt a lexus be sweet?
oh well

i don't know about all the wheelbase, that'll affect your breakover and turning circle.....
but since im considering a similar idea to get (s)LOW ratios, it seems the right way to go, in Oz, i've seen a bent housing but as far as the wheel bearings and strength of running gear is concerned the rears are holding up to 38s, lockers and big horsepower V8s, (over here) truss it, put it in gear and juice it :D

ive never seen a hilux case break from power, only 2 i've seen were starved of oil and and were mistreated/ abused for a fair amount of time, (water inside) the early cruiser ones seem to have more problems than the hilux (mini) ones.....

Yeah, from what I have heard on the mini board they can take some serious hp. Plus a couple of the aftermarket companies are making some pretty beefy chromoly input and output shafts for them.

I can't wait!!!

What are you using to mate the sm420 to the toy case? Novaks? Custom? Or is there new info on Marlin's plate adapter?

I talked to Marlin and he said they will be out with one by this week (yeah right) It is looking like around $600 for a plate adapter..

I am patiently waiting to try out a new adapter from some crazy canadians.. It is in the works. When I get it I will inform the board about how I like it.

I like that idea but I already have the cases lined up.

Besides, the 2K for an atlas right now would kill me.

Let me go to Hawaii to get Married and then see what I have left in my bank account ;)

Hawaii??? I figure there are a gajillion (sp?) places to get married in Vegas, maybe one right down the street from your house! That way you'll have more $$$ for the Cruiser projects, right?

I'm trying to set up my trip to Vegas for late June, the new truck can't wait to get out on the road again.

LOL I just did not want to be married by Elvis ;)

But it does make sense. Hmmm, I wonder if Ann would let me get away with that..

Doubt it...

Sounds good to me man. Just not the week of June 25th (that is the day)
Although if it is you still can pickup the frame. I'll just have my mom help

Dude,

Get married in Hawaii I did, two years later MY Ann TOLD me to buy the Atlas and all the other goodies I'm putting in. Vegas isn't that where the trash from California go to get hitched... you know half the actors and actresses that get doped up and ruin the neighborhood
