I was out tinkering with my mower and noticed that a C.O. (conservation officer) had a guy on a quad pulled over, one of my buddies. So i cruised over there on my quad(registered for Morgan Co. Indiana)were i live) and asked if the rumors i was hearing about them not being legal is true. You talk about some one being a A$$ hole. He wrote me a warning and said they are not legal.
The thing that really pisses me off is that the 4 year contract i sighned and PAID for in my county is a hoax and the goverment is screwing people. He just said that they are only legal if the county designates the roads, BUT they will still sell them. They do not tell you this till they catch you on the road.
So if you guys know if your county is designated or not reply back, im gonna do something about this. And there will be some changes with the goverment. Not to pi$$ any one off, but if your a C.O., you dont have to be a dick!!

Here in Texas they are not legal on any roads, or the shoulders. They are only legal in designated areas of the National forests, and private property. If you ride in the national forests, you have to have a certification sticker that says that you have taken a safety class, and paid your yearly fee. It's kind of a racket, but at least the money helps to keep our forests open to us.

Kaliforneee is similar to Texasss. Not legal on any state designated "highway". This definition does get a little vague when you get into areas like national forests. Pretty much depends on what leg of the law enforcement you run into and how big of a wiener they are. Example: you could be on a dirt road that is public access. Most Forest rangers will just check that you have your Green Sticker (DMV off-highway registration) and let you on your way. However, CHP thinks that anything they can drive their cruisers on is a "highway" and write you up.

Technically the CHP guys are correct and "technically" quads are legal ONLY on private property or designated OHV trails.

Long winded answer, but there ya go.
