My girlfriend is looking at buying a 94 pathfinder. The previous owner has been running 32in tires on it and using is for mild 4-wheeling. My question: Is their any thing that the pathfinders are notorious for having problems with? what is the first thing i should look at? anyone .02 is appreciated. thanks

post in the Nissan section and check out sites like 4x4parts.com, a wealth of knowledge on there. But....the auto-transmissions seem to suck once they have a ton a miles on them so a rebuild my be a good idea if it feels like its slipping.
Also one of the biggest issues for Nissans was teh OEM steering linkage. CALMINI makes a kick-ass kit that solves the problems but I have countless pictures of my friends in with thier tie-rods bent and wheels pointing at each other.
Other then that its just the typical used truck/rig you never know what you might find so look it over good.

The five speed tranny's suck too.
Why's that? Most guys I talk to don't seem to have issues with them, other then the normal wear and tear, like needing a new clutch and replacing the pilot bearing. Am I talking to the wrong crowd?

x2 on an auto tranny, when i had my lifted pathy on 33's, my tranny went out at 200k. exhaust manifold bolts breaking off in the head are a common problem also.

Well from my personaly experience with my 84 fifth gear went out. Then on my 94 the bearings were making horrible noises. I found out later that there was technical service bulletin stating to overfill the tranny because the origional design had the fill plug too low and the bearings didn't get enough oil. I think they are great trucks, I just had issues with tranny's. There is a good site for Nissans www.nissanoffroad.net .
