In the following picture, there is an XJ front coil and a TJ front coil.

I think the TJ coil is the smaller one but when I looked up the curb weights for the two Jeeps, I saw that the TJ has over 400lbs on an XJ.

Which is which?

Yes. I got them in a pile of unwanted stock parts.

the one on the left is a stock TJ coil. The one on the right has more wraps then I've ever seen on a stock XJ. Is it out of a 2wd XJ or older model?

The one on the right would have come from a 4wd as these were leftover parts from suspension lifts. It would be an early to mid 90s XJ. One of my friends mentioned that it could be a "cargo" coil because of the way the wraps get closer together near the bottom. Also, I could have these upside down in the picture. I just put them that way so they would stand up by themselves.

You do have them upside down. The TJ coil is the shorter one. The XJ spring may have come from an upcountry package or something similar as then will give some lift over a standard stock spring.

2wd XJs had the same suspension as 4wd. the coil rates may have been different, but they had the same components.....just FYI.

My Wifes TJ is lifted with 2" XJ front coils in the front and stock front TJ coils in the back. Comes out to be a 4" lift. Cheap and easy way to fit 33"s. Here is snowbashing October 2006
