Yup. I blew the line. Once I was committed I had to drive it through. If I would have held the wall better I may have made it. Next trip out to HH I'm running the trail again and next time I'll kick it's ass. :D

Wanted: Rear Scout II quarter panel. :flipoff2:
I just responded to an add in the For Sale section.

Todd, you mind if I pull down some of the pics, resize em and post'm?; I'll give you credit.

I'm taking June off to prep for the Con run in July. I've got a lot of stuff to do, tranny rebuild, shocks, cooling, and mirrors. Maybe we can do a day trip to Raines in June, I can't go an entire month without wheeling. What's next on your rig?

the next 250 bucks I get I'm getting the gears setup for the CJ.

I'm picking up a locrite for the front of the XJ this week I should also be getting the 6" coils soon for it.

I need to work on bumpers and rock sliders for the XJ.

SLiders are almost done.

Joe, where are your pics?

Rubicrawler and Rockgoddess, You would have had sooooo much fun and probably wouldn't have broken an eye. I did the mini Rubicon in record time! For a Scout anyway. Funny though. The guy from Lavender Bro's was there with his TTC Willys and he stopped and backed up more often than me!

Are you guys about ready to order tube? I want to get a quote. I'll facilitate the purchase and you guys can pay me back. I'm ordering myself 100' of 2' .120 HREW. Who's next?

2' huh? Isn't that gonna be a little tight next to the glove box, sunvisors, and window cranks? :flipoff2::D

Who's got a tubing bender? I might be up for ordering some tube with you guys too, if you're getting a discount for volume. What's the rough estimate of $/ft right now? I've got a couple more cages to build this summer, so....

Well the 2' is about 20 bucks per " :flipoff2:

One of the guys has a bender with 2" dies so I'm cool. Buy him food and he'll invite you over too! :flipoff2: I know you are reading this Todd!

I don't have the quote but I want to pay a buck twenty a foot or less.

Them boys are $175  Maybe I'll see if he wants to sponsor the rig. I'll have to wait until I complete the build up before I start body work.

Hey Joe, you're better off w/a FG quarter - I've used and abused mine for many years (heck even rolled on both of them) and they are still in great shape. I guarantee that if you had FG quarters when you laid it over, all you would have done was scrape the shit out of the paint, and f'd the gas cap up. They are a little more, but MAN are they worth it.... Just my experience... :D

I don't know if FG would have made it. The damage was caused by a couple of root elbows, sticking out of the wall. The QP was pushed in at one or two single points. IMHO, with this much force concentrated a FG panel would not have faired well. Also if you look at the pic, the panel pushed up against the top not good for FG, as it would not have creased.

Any way you look at it, I killed the QP :p

I realize all that, but I've seen them survive much worse! I'm tellin you those fawkers are strong! I consistently pivot my whole truck against a tree using my qp and a few bogger teeth. I have seen them actually take a "tree boob" (colloquial term for nub that is left after branch breaks off) direct hit, flex, and resume shape. I'd have gone thru 10 or 15 metal qp's by now. You don't understand...I wheel fairly hard... :rasta:

All we are saaaaayinggggg,
Is give FG a chaaaaannncceeee....

Ok, let me borrow your set, and I'll let you know what I think :flipoff2: It may be an option if I decide to repair the QP. I may just relocate the filler to the rear cap and slide hammer the panel back out. I'm also thinking of building a square tube frame with replaceable panels.

I'm not going to worry about it for now, it's wheeling season now and I've got mechanical sheet to worry about.

That's kool, I just wanna make sure you consider it. Guys on the trail are amazed by that stuff, but until you see it, it's hard to imagine. I like your idea of square tube frame w/replaceable panels. I've lost the whole front clip and while it'll be nice w/the clearance & crap, I'm gonna miss having that "scout look". I've been looking at sectioning a grill at the very least....

If it helps, Joe, I'm putting 'glass quarters on *MY* trail rig. I just don't know WHEN.. but they're in my shed - right next to a set of steel quarters.

The steel is going on the racer. It's less likely to see body damage, so the steel should last longer. The trail rig is getting 'glass so it'll either be "perfect" or smashed.

I'm still hoping to bend up a full 'cage with a rear hoop, and then add "nerf bars" midway between the top of the (raised/tubbed) wheel well and the top of the quarter.

Keep the amount of flex the 'glass has to endure to a minimum - or at least, keep it less than the breaking threshold.

For now I'm keeping the steel front fenders on the trail rig tho'. Racer may see a 'glass nose down the road.. especially if the one-piece front clip comes to fruition. :D

I'm doing something similar Tom. I'll be adding a rail that goes from the "b pillar" of the cage to the "c pillar", running it on tabs that are attached to the b & c pillar, but will extend the bar to a point just past the roll of the fender, at a level a few inches above the top rail. I've got a buddy that did that to his LC, and it works very well. Another trick is to add sprint car like "kickers" to the rocker panel guards so that trees will be forced away from the face of the door jamb - and the tires can walk around them...

Hope all this makes sense. Sure sounds good in my head....:p
