look around on ebay there is a company on there that does direct drop in HEI distributors for the 4.2, this is the way I went. It was a brand new unit and had the correct drive gear, the coil contained in it too. CRT Performance is the company. I have been happy with it in my YJ. Look into them.

changing the coil and going to a big ford cap distriutor would be a lot easier. I used a round 50k volt MSD coil, Jeep 4.0L efi plug wires, ford I6 cap and rotor.

A TFI is a lot easier and will give you comparable performance to HEI. It simply replaces your cap, rotor, coil, and plugwires with those components from a 300cid Ford I6.

I've ran it for years on both 6cyl and V8 applications and have been very happy with the performance.
