i think scenerio number 2 is taking place currently
tennessee rockhumper 02-24-2007, 06:10 PM go to the aftermarket and beef your IFS. if its your DD and you have a dedicated rig for getting rowdy in, then SAS is a dumbass idea.
a 2500hd IFS will ride better and be just fine for normal, or even mild use. I cannot see a SAS being an upgrade in ride quality or reliability for an on road vehicle over a new truck IFS.
is a SAS stronger for offroad abuse? yes
do you need it to haul your shit to tyhe woods and drive back and forth to work? no
Fullback40 02-24-2007, 06:55 PM I tried the cognito kits. STEERING STILL SUCKS...I have replaced hub assemblies, cognito tie rod ends, countless pittman and idler arms. STEERING STILL SUCKS....Just bought a 79 F250 Dana 60 yesterday. Screw IFS

Yep it just a stupid front end design to put on a truck.
I have it on an H2 that I actually put on the trail. I have Fabtech HD tie rods that actually do help. The Super Diesel Stainless steel centerlink is not only price but severely lessens the turning radius.
I learned that if you can keep the centerlink low on the idler side by alter the idler mount, you can lengthen the lifespan of the pitman and idler arms. But, maybe simply fabbing up a reinforcement to the stock centerlink would be hugely beneficial because under acceleration in 4x4 or on the trail, the centerlink not only rotates slightly, it also will bend which is what is wearing out the the pitman and idlers and also cause the geometry to get so far out that tie rods snap.
I considered a SAS on an H2 and having Dan and Bender do something trick with the H2... but it would still be a wide-ass, heavy rig and am giving up and going Jeep.
paragon 02-24-2007, 07:17 PM oops
I also have the cognito kit and am running 37x12.5 MT/Rs
If the tie rod distance to the frame rail is closer on the passenger side than the driver side, you can mod up your idler bracket some to get the idler arm to come down a little and get than centerlink more level.
it will keep the geometry closer so that when you accelerate and the two front tires try to pull around towards each other, the PS tie rod won't be at more of a severe angle than the DS.
FarRunner 02-24-2007, 08:56 PM lol
it would be stoopid to sas a dd... good luck with your truck and pic.s of your trail truck?

Cougar67 02-25-2007, 08:36 PM I work at a front end/alignment shop and I see this all the time. These new GM trucks do not hold up to big meats and by big I mean 33's or larger. Same goes for those gay 20's, 22's ect. The best solution I have found is Fabtech's oversized inner and outer tie rods and to tell the customer to stop beating on their inferior front suspension. But hey i'm not going to complain too much it keeps me employed :flipoff2:

rcurrier44 02-26-2007, 09:03 AM Eather run closer to stock tires, swap parts as they wear out, or SAS it.
Those are your choices. I have never herd of anyone having luck keeping IFS together with larger than 33" tires.....and for a dd/tow rig larger than stock tires realy are stupid. I used to drive lifted rigs for a DD....its expensive, higher maintnance and the ride sucks. We have a lot of fags around here who have to boost there ego/dick size by lifting their big desil trucks that they tow with twice a year.

good to know, iv'e always owned SA trucks till this one. figured theres got to be something that would work but then theres the sucky hubs also to deal with
but i have to add the truck rides very nice when it's not fucking up and yes i only tow a hand full of times a year but tavel to pa approx 300 miles round trip just about evey other weekend or more witch puts some wear on the rig

I believe the key word is axle (singular). Also note: "Still haven't swapped in my Dana 60 yet...". Chances are he bought the truck that way and hasn't found the time to swap in the front axle of choice. Lots of guys build their trucks (or any project, automotive or not) in phases...

Yes, I have one (1 since you obviously can't read) 10 bolt front axle that came with the truck.
And as Morgsie pointed out, there is also a Dana 60 that is in the buildup phase right now that I finally am getting the chance to work on.
And my truck isn't 22" lifted with chrome and 46 inch tires and God only knows what else, being driven to the mall and back. And then bragging about it on a tech forum which has been dedicated to those of us who build, wheel, break and upgrade our trucks so that they don't break again.
Things like 22" lift kits and chrome and tilt beds are considered to be flamingly gay around here.
And what Bubba Ray was getting at is that it is a shame that your children have a father like you. Can't knock on your kids cause its not thier fault their dad is a moron. But someone should have castrated you before you had a chance to contaminate the world.
And please say something else to make me laugh at you. It only gets better every time your post.

Yes, I am the weak. And your life has "far surpassed mine". That is very apparent and obvious.
For starters, you can't spell. You have very poor sentence structure.
You have replaced your wheel hubs not once but three fucking times, so its also apparent that you lost the capability to learn about breaking/upgrading.
So yes, I am the inferior species.
You though are proof that evolution is an invalid concept. Hopefully you will still have the capability of making gutteral noises to communicate with your other knuckle-dragging primate inbred family members in 10 years.

teamdilli 02-27-2007, 10:54 AM the guys over at Blitzkrieg Motorsports sell a replacement set of HD tie rods. they use all nice machined pieces along with some hiems so it creates a much stronger steering set-up. They ask from what i remember about $500 for the kit and they also ship them. i have this setup on my 2500 HD and it has never let me down. they also offer a 1500 chevy uni-bearing replacement hub. my little brother has them on his truck and will never go back. easy to get replacement bearings for and such.. call and ask for Sean, he's the one who helped me...(714)630-0630.i've got some pics of the stuff if you guys want to see it....
Hope this helps.
Biorick78 02-27-2007, 10:59 AM how long have you been running that setup I will have to look into that
teamdilli 02-27-2007, 11:03 AM i've had it on my truck for about 2.5 years. my brother has has his uni bearing replacement for about 7 months and both have worked perfect. i take my truck to glamis at least 2 times a month and the truck does get beat on from time to time. but everything is great. all the parts i got from those guys are still on my truck now. its hands down the best, i get asked about them all the time out in the desert.

sounds cool is there a web link I can check out
teamdilli 02-27-2007, 11:16 AM yeah, this is the site,
http://blitzkriegoffroad.com/products/hdtierods.htm
only problem is, this is the older version of the kit, at least from what i was told... and the tie rods come straight now and don't have the same piece connecting the tie rod to the rack.. the piece is now machined from some type of steel and it waaaay nicer. but it gives you an idea of what you could expect..

that looks cool in fact lots of cool stuff on that site did that help with the slopy steering on the street I preety sure most of the shakes come from the center link bar because it's bowed out on ends but those are much stonger tie rods
paragon 02-27-2007, 12:35 PM If you are going to run it on the street, go with the Fabtech HD tie rods. They DON'T use heim joints which is simply going to wear out much quicker on a street vehicle.
If it wasn't a DD, heims would be OK, but being a DD they stay unprotected and you can't keep them from wearing. Plus the Fabtechs are cheaper.
paragon 02-27-2007, 12:38 PM I got my Fabtech TRs from here for $230

Fullback40 02-27-2007, 01:43 PM you sound like your going threw the same shit i am stock replacement is like just a bandad so you tried aftermarket and still problems huh that sucks not what i wanted to hear
what kind of mount up are you doing 4-link, leaf ,ect
Springs, Dana 60 front, 14bolt rear, nothing to fancy, thought about coil over but shit got expensive real quick. 4 link was even worse. I found a 79 Ford F250 4x4 for $900 to donate the front end. The truck ran great and I couldn't part it out so I got real lucky and found a kid in Tarpon Springs with the same truck already parted out and got the Dana 60 front and rear w/ 4-11's for $600. :p
Fullback40 02-27-2007, 01:53 PM the guys over at Blitzkrieg Motorsports sell a replacement set of HD tie rods. they use all nice machined pieces along with some hiems so it creates a much stronger steering set-up.
There are plenty of upgrades but I only have $3500 in my SAS complete. Not counting larger tires and 4/88 gears(I couldn't resist going bigger) So $500 here and $500 there and still replacing parts was getting old. I drove a SAS chevy and immediately fell in love. Springs are a little stiffer but I'm trying the soft ride springs for ride quality.
GMCTruxrule 02-27-2007, 03:42 PM OMG you are an ass i also have 2 front ends and 3 14 bolt rears siting in my yard who gives a shit it's whats on your truck that counts right? isn't that why mine other truck sucks because its IFS not SFA its preety obvious how much of a butt munch you are good thing your a poor ass loser and can only afford to buy one truck thats over 20 years old OMG and it's not even buit right after 20 years in service thats pathetic
go back home to your mommy maybe she has gas money for you
Well lets see. Your truck sucks because you are lifting it and putting big tires on it and break components that get replaced over and over again and instead of doing the sensible thing like install a solid front axle and being done with it, you come on here crying about breaking this, and breaking that, and breaking and replacing hubs 3 times. Seriously man, don't be a dumbass and either:
1. Leave the truck stock because lifted IFS trucks = crap
2. SAS it and be done with it.
And sorry to disappoint your thoughts of riches, glory and granduer, but the 80 K20 is one of 3 trucks I own and one of my trucks is newer than your 2003.

1967K10 02-27-2007, 06:01 PM Back to the topic, SuperDiesel's parts are top notch. I know him and he builds good parts. His tie rod sleeves are $145 for a pair. He also has a centerlink. They seem to do the trick. One of our mutral friends had an 03' with 6" lift and 35"s and he hasn't had a problem with the SD parts. SuperDiesel himself has a lifted 650RWHP 3500 dually D-Max he runs the parts on too. I will run them if I don't go with a SAS first. My current idler and pitman only have about 5-8K on them and I think the idler is going again :mad3: .

Yes I am as a matter of fact:flipoff2:
But besides the 10 bolt front that is due to be swapped for my new Dana 60 here very shortly, what is wrong with the rest of it?
dick_landy 02-27-2007, 07:00 PM how many shafts you snap? if you say none yet, you obviously dont wheel.big block power+std trans+tall wide high traction tire+ 10bolt=dumbass.what im sayin is your one to talk.

morgsie 02-27-2007, 09:44 PM yeah like the poor losser ones
Don't be f**king ignorant. Lots of us can't afford to do a truck up all at once. I'd say most of peoples' money goes to things of high priority (ie: a place to sleep, food, or school like what I am doing right now) over a hobby such as a truck or car.
BTW, it's looser, looser.

My truck is a work in progress. My wife was kind enough to spend her reenlistment bonus on the 38" Boggers for my truck.
As for the rest of the truck, it is a DD/weekend wheeler which I obviously don't abuse the fuck out of so as I have a way to get back and forth to and from work when my wife drives the other truck.
So, not that I am saying that my truck is the ultimate rock crawler, because its not, it is a capable dependable truck that I am upgrading as I have the time.
