: Trail Gear 6.5 Tcase Gears
hcgalvin 02-22-2007, 10:26 AM Yes, I tried to search. Search fawking sucks right now.
Who's installed these "Trail Creeper" gears?
I know they're new, and that's got me pondering if I should get them or not.
For those who got them, what's the quality like? Do they come in a box saying "made in china"? Or, are they made in the US?
And, how about Low Range Off Road? Are they cool to deal with?
How's your experience with the gears so far?
trail rated 02-22-2007, 11:00 AM Not sure about those gears, but Low Range's owner Sean is a good guy. He used to work for RRO, and left because he wasn't too fond of the way Glenn ran things. I dealt with Sean when he worked at RRO, he seems like a good guy. Anyone that has ever dealt with Glenn can understand why he might have left. Sean gets a  in my book!

I have installed a couple sets of these gears and they are very nice quality. The kit comes complete with all the shafts, bearings and shims needed for a complete rebuild. Very nice stuff in my opinion at a great price. They've worked great for me so far.
OKIE ZUK 02-22-2007, 01:03 PM I"m in the middle of installing a third set for customers. All have been great and I am now running a set in mine. I liked the high range better on my 6.1 Sumo gears. The price was great also. Be sure to have your own gaskets, because Trail-Gears are hard to remove without destroying. They also need the least amount of case grinding of any set out there, hands down. Infact they would almost self clearnce.:grinpimp:
NOODLES 02-22-2007, 02:02 PM I just bought a set, they are definatley nice. i have compared the quality to another 6.5 gear set my brother blew up (due to a cracked case) they look about the same, except the large gear in the kit has 3 holes the other brand did not. the shims and stuff are factory except the seals and gaskets. I can't wait to instal them. if you go to trail-gears forum and go to the sammi section, there is a link to the install in one of their customers rigs.
the price rocks and the warranty does too.
toysami 02-22-2007, 02:20 PM i just bought a set and there great mine didn't have any holes there made in house down in oakhurst by fresno my buddy went down to pick mine up and his. :flipoff2:

I think Scott was running a special on them for the month of Feb... call and ask.
I know his price was the best I've seen on the 6.5's.
His customer service is second to none.
RIVERZUK 02-23-2007, 08:57 AM I just got a set from Low Range.Haven't had a chance to install them yet. Quality seems very good. They were delivered in 2 days.
hcgalvin 02-23-2007, 01:23 PM Thanks for the comments, guys!
Low Range 02-25-2007, 10:07 PM Hi,
Thanks for all the complements guys! What we have been hearing from our customers is that these gears are working out absolutely great, and are holding up to a great deal of abuse. We have sold many kits and haven't heard one problem as of yet. We are currently selling fully assembled t-cases to the public. If you are looking for a quality gear set at a great price, these are definitely worth the investment. http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/samdrivetrain.htm Let us know if there is anything else we can do for you. Hearing such good experiences from you guys really makes us happy.
Thanks again!

TessaL 03-02-2007, 12:17 AM One question,
How long are tooths of bigger center gear? You need to grind the case because of that but are the tooth heads cut down to get that gear fit better?
I haven't found yet the gear set where input gear will hold if tooths aren't full height.

Hi TessaL,
Yes, the contact of the gear tooth is not as tall as factory, but the gear teeth are wider from the base of the gear to the top. I can't remember the exact measurements right off the top of my head, but I will post up some rough measurements today. As far as strength goes, these gears have already been proven and carry a lifetime guarantee.

You know, I just cheked out Low Range Off-Road's website for the first time last night and when I noticed they were in Utah I assumed that perhaps Glenn had created a new company with a different name to try and sneak around the reputation RR has had with poor customer service. Glad to see this is not the case. Chris, after having worked for your previous employer you obviously have a pretty good idea what not to do to please your customers. :D
Good luck with your new venture.
OKIE ZUK 03-05-2007, 11:03 AM I just installed a fourth set last week and very, very little grinding is req. Less than any others that I have done, but have trouble removing the gaskets.:p
JbMotorSports 03-05-2007, 06:13 PM With the Low Range gears, 6.5's. I am wondering on which set to get. I am going to be running 31's with stock axle gearing. Would I still be able to get 70-75mph out of the rig, with out reving over 5 grand?
I was thinking of the 4.1, but the 6.5-1 are basically the same price. Thanks in advance.

We took some rough measurements with a caliper, and the gear is About" .04 shorter and "About" .03 wider. The grinding is very minimal and can be done with a dremel tool, or a die grinder with bits available from just about anywhere. I hope this further answers your question, and I am sorry I didn't answer your question sooner.

Jeff,
With 31" tires I wouldn't reccomend 6.5:1 gears if you want to go 70-75. The best gearset for you would be the 4.9:1 gearset that we offer. You can call us if you want for a better explanation on why, but if you were to run 6.5:1's you would be running at too high of an RPM on the highway because of it's 20% reduction in high range.
Let me know if I can help you with anything else,
Chris @ Low Range Off-Road
