Hey guys,

I purchased a SM465 to 203 adapter from that "Rat Bastard" Jason M ;)

It has the adapter with the SM465 side and the 203 side. Fine and dandy, but what about the "spud shaft" that allows the 10 spline output on the SM465 to mate to the input of the 203?

I am trying to sell this thing to a guy and I have NO CLUE about this shit, someone bail me out, please!

i thought you had to change the output shaft on the 465 to a 23 spline??

Is that right??

Thats a stock GM adapter your talking about Right?

I have one in my garage,It came stock(465-203) ,no spud shaft.(about 4" long)

Unless for some reason you have the Auto tranny TH-350- 203(about 1" long)

Those (auto&Mauual) 203's have different inputs

There is no spud shaft for the adapter you are describing, Nolan. The adapter is designed to mate the SM465 with it's male 10-spline output shaft directly to the GM version of the NP203 equiped with a female 10-spline input shaft. So, your adapter will work only for A) someone who already has a 203 with the 10-spline input gear (as rare as the 465/203 combination in the first place), or B) someone willing to rebuild a more common NP203 and replace the input shaft with a new 10-spline unit. The NP203-SM465 combos are getting hard enough to find that for most it will be easier and perhaps even less expensive to replace the input gear on the 203 (about $150).

Hmmmm,
I wonder if the 203 is still available.
If it is findable (I think it is) is it a really good idea to get?
Or is it better to just convert one? (parts availability)

woody has this adapter sitting on the shop floor
woody also has the matching 203 case
woody also has a sm465 in the truck and another enroute soon
woody sees no need for a spud shaft of any sort since the adapter is only needed to combine the parts - the 203 has a 10-spline female input already on it.

Quit bragging Woody:p
If anyone else wants to be like Woody I have a 203 and adapter all ready to bolt up to an SM465, and will sell for the right price.;)

Jack,
If the NP203 box and adapter are for sale what are the plans for the drivetrain now? Atlas?

This is a separate NP203 transfer case and adapter that I found about a month ago. As hard as these are to find I figured I would buy it, clean it up and sell it at a later date. ;)

Nolen, I got a 10-spline NP203 input gear new from Drivetrain Specialists in Las Vegas, NV for about $190, IIRC. The one in the 203 box I used for the first year was pretty munged when I got it, and it only got worse as I used it. I've heard you can still get the gear new from GM, but the first Chevrolet dealership I tried told me they couldn't get it.

The one on the left is "wallered out", and the one on the right is new.
