: Splitting up Jeep forum(s).... Again...

Ok, we split up the Toyota forum(s) into sub categories. We plan to do the same with Jeep. Here is what we have in mind -

Of course we would add Jeep Talk (Hardcore) to the mix as well.. But what should we do with Newbie? Should we add it, or assume that the newbies would use the other forums?

I say, just add those new ones, and keep the Newbie forum for those dumb ass questions that get asked over and over and over and over.

The newbie forum does get a decent amount of traffic.

Couldn't you just add "Newbie" and "Hardcore" to each category:question:

X2...to a point. I do like the ideas that guys are throwing around about limiting posts to a certain number per IP address without a star. Let's get these freeloaders to start paying their share.

from what readers said the first go around http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=402027

take the 3 new forums then add :

the existing "Jeep talk hard core tech" and change the name to- Juggy talk ( jeep buggys and fabricated Jeeps )

and then just to fill any voids take,

the existing "Jeep talk for newbies" and change the name to- Jeep General discussion. (flame free place for any jeep tech )

I think those 5 catagorys would be a great addition to the Pirate tech format

Its hard to say that things get re-posted over here seeing as how you can't search...

I really like these forums though, and I am new over here. Keep it friendly either way!

Lance & Camo... I feel that there is enough separate forums to work just fine as is.. If anything, kick the XJ/MJ/ZJ/JK crowd to the side..

I dunna know, after racing an xj build ito a jeepseed in the baja 1000 and meeting the guys that wheel them I am very impressed with their abilitys and would welcome them into the pirate world. they are a great fit.

as far as stuff like the Jk, well I for one would love to have one and build it into a trick DD/Trail capable rig for weekend camping and wheeling trips. I have seen alot of really trick new jeeps built and wheeled.

we can't get old and grumpy and stuck in our ways, gotta change with the times and be accecpting of new ideas and things.

Why not seperate it for each class? xj yj tj cj and so forth? Leave the newbie alone that is good for them, besides I went through my bashing for posting stupid shit in the wrong forum....so I think that is a good initiation...

I don't care what you do as long as there is a clearly marked forum for Newbies that is flame free. I need a place to ask my dumb ass questions :p :D

There is too much flipping and flopping parts from one to another to really do that.

I would have:

Juggy Talk
Older Jeep talk
Newer Jeep talk
Jeep Speed talk
Newbie Jeep talk (flame free)

I like splitting out the Juggy's.

I'd keep the leaf spring jeep's toghether since they are basically the same.

Waggy's, Cherokee's, Truck's need their own place if there is enough traffic.

Keep the Newbie.

For all it's worth, it's easy to search using Google. I think the search should be enbled for all regestered users. Newbies cant search so they just post questions that have been answered over and over. To encourage payment maybe limit the number of posts from an IP to 5 so something. Then make them buy a star.

But this is still the best forum on the web.

I'm not saying kick 'em off the forum. I have owned 4 XJ's and I have a MJ now. They're just a differnt breed that's all.

x-eleventy billion.

A lot of "newb" posts find their way to hardcore because the poster doesn't think "newbs" will be qualified to answer their questions. Taking the newb tag off could help to keep some of the BS posts out of the hardcore forum.

My vote is for

Juggy (Hardcore Jeep Buggies)
CJ (86-earlier)
Wrangler (87-later)
Jeep General Discussion (Flame Free Advice)
All other Jeep models (XJ/Mj/Zj etc)

Maybe just tie the last two together.:flipoff2:

Juggy/hardcore forum
General Jeep (flame free)
New jeep (97 on up, coil spring)
Old Jeep (96 down, leaf spring)
Full bodied jeep (FSJ,XJ,Liberty,Grand,M715,whatever)

And Camo, I will be building that 4 door JK DD/light trail/pimptastic mobile sooner or later :D watch for posts.

i like CUE-BALL idea. the newbies need a flame free space so they stay off the hardcore pages till they are up to speed so the hardcore guys can read on and not read newie type questions

Juggy Talk
Older Jeep talk
Newer Jeep talk
Jeep Speed talk
Newbie Jeep talk (flame free)

I like the idea though.

...keep the Newbie forum for those dumb ass questions that get asked over and over and over and over....limiting posts to a certain number per IP address without a star. Let's get these freeloaders to start paying their share.First post, so I'm a newb to the forum...but does that make a person a newb to jeeps or anything vehicular?? Don't know about the star, but would hate to think I gotta pay for Jeep advice or status. Are JP'ers no longer a family of gear heads, or does it just die in the electronic age?...as far as stuff like the Jk, well I for one would love to have one and build it into a trick DD/Trail capable rig for weekend camping and wheeling trips. I have seen alot of really trick new jeeps built and wheeled.

we can't get old and grumpy and stuck in our ways, gotta change with the times and be accecpting of new ideas and things. Thanks! That hit the spot. KJ owners might just like Jeeps of all kinds and want to taste 'em first hand. And it sure doesn't mean this KJ owner doesn't have a matching CJ7 to park around the camp fire. Or even more projects in the garage and finally got in over his head and is now looking for advice (If I could pay for favors in beer, I would!)

Just feels odd having noses turned up from what you drive. Like a "newb" needs a "my other vehicle is a xx-x" bumper sticker to get a hearty wave and a nod.

I ran to the search first for Dana44 info, and many ended up in the newb section. Odd thing is, topics went off what I thought the subject is...so I drift on in to the Hardcore section and found precise answers. Now I'm off to lurk some more :D
