I got some new brake lines and set out to install them today. I unhooked it form the clapier or whatever but I can't get the hose to come off the frame mount, I seen it had a snap ring but the ring just bent and broke. When I tried to unloosen the back part conenction of the hard line, it just stripped smooth. :mad3: :mad3:

Its a CJ7 with the D30 front disc brakes, non power brakes.

Any suggestions.

Dremel+Cutoff Wheel=Success.

Leave enough of the hardline to reflare (double 45* flare, Eh...Put the flare nut on before you flare it). Add a new frame clip and presto:

I had to cut my lines also--borrowed the flare kit from Auto Zone. Practice on the piece you cut off first.

Gotta rent me a tool, get new fittings and tose snap rings (which just bent off by hand).

Looks like I wont be doing much tonight now. :p

Will brake fluid burn? Wondering if dremal is good.

Brake fluid is alcohol and glycerine basically. It possible that it could burn, but pretty hard to get going. I think the Dremel is safe.

Next time try heating the brake line with a propane torch and then use a pair of vise grips [real tight] to loosen the line while holding the nut on the flexible line to prevent the brake line from twisting apart.

Yup.

The flare tools are pretty cheap too. I think I paid like $40 for the "bling bling" Matco one I have. Comes in handy for other things than brake lines as well.

My Jeep had a lot of salt water damage so while I was putting the lift on I cut all the old lines off and replaced them with prebent stainless lines. Cost about $167 delivered.

Well my day was total shit.

First I was jacking up the jeep with a high lift (I dont have a floor jack yet arg) and the damn jeep slid sideways off the jack and hit a bunch of crap. I was lucky not to be part of that crap. I worked that out though just got my attention real quick. I striped the crap out of the nut and was waiting on my father to get home so I could take his truck to advanced (My ride was on jack stands without brakes :flipoff2: ). He walked outside and not even a min later comes in pissed off saying "Is that all you wanted?" and I was like "Huh?!?!?!" and yeah he pretty much undid them in like 2 seconds. I think the pb I put on it for the past hour helped though. :D

Well I got longer lines so when I SOA I'd be set. I DIDNT THINK to check for rubbing. Took off down the street, did a whole lot of testing (Still shitty stock CJ brakes...) got out to look for any leaks and found my brake line's coating was pretty much melted off. I had to rig up a zip tie system to hold them back towards the shock mount for now.

$109 total for the brake lines, braided and such say Rubicon.

Now that I think of it, I might have just installed them wrong. Is the clip supposed to be knocked in AFTER you hook them up on both ends of the line??  Damn I hope thats all.

Another trick I have used very successfully is to tighten them until you hear them "pop" BEFORE you try to loosen them. Tightening them this little bit breaks them loose and frees them up.

And you are using a flare wrench, right? So you don't strip them?

How can I keep my lines from rubbing the tire????

Did some wheelin today (Actually only 3 wheels cause front right lockout no work :P) but the zip ties didnt come undone or anything :-/
