I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado 1/2 ton 4x4 that I am going to be lifting 12 inches. I want to put a 14 bolt dana 60 in the rear and I was just wondering what kind of modifying do I need to do to make that axle fit, or does it bolt into place? Please let me know what I will have to do to make it work. Thanks, Mike
p.s. And if anyone knows anyone getting rid of an axle, near Vacaville (Sacramento, CA) let me know too. Thanks

Well..... your first order of business should probably be to pin point what axle your actually looking for..... a dana 60..... or a 14 bolt:flipoff2:

Yeah, for $1200, you can have one with a matching one-ton ten bolt.

do you plan on changing teh front axle also? if not youll prolly need a 14 bolt sf 6 lug axle they can be found int he new vortec max's and also some early 90s 2500 van and trucks

i just plan on changing my rear because i am not going to be 4 wheeling in it, just using it for show. i have a 96 chevy silverado with 9" and 37s and i went through one tranny and 10 bolt rear and then got a heavy duty built tranny and 4.56 with a truetrac and i just dont like having a 10 bolt with big tires cuz they break. i haven't lifted my new truck yet, but my plan is 12" with 38's and i would just rather put a 14 bolt back there because even without taking it wheelin, big tires are still hard on the rear end and i want it to hold up. i drive my trucks hard too. i either want to go with 4.56 or 4.88 gearing, what do you think i should do? what kinda acceleration do you think i'd get with 4.10's?

jackedupjimmy
02-24-2007, 03:35 PM
i would go with a 6 lug 14 bolt then should be plenty of rear for the street and youll have the same lug pattern so no need for 2 seperatre rims. 4:56 or 4:88 with 38's 4.10's wont give u enough accerlation
thats just my 2 cents lol

Now that this is in the newbie section...
Are you sure you have a 10-bolt in the back? I thought I heard something about GM finally stepping up to the 9.5" 14SF in the 1/2 tons. In which case a Dana 60 might just be a down grade.

Ok,
1. Take a big deap breath
2. Grow up
3. Learn how to ask a good question so you can get a good answer
You asked about a 14 bolt dana 60, you needed to ask about one or the other, not both as if they were one axle.
And yes, it sounds like you have not just one a mall crawler.

3...What makes you think anyone is jealous of a bone stock 07 silverado.

4....Alot of people have more time and money into their wheeling rigs than your truck will ever be worth.

yeah, not everyone can have a duct tape front suspension... he asked a question and was unsure about what he needed, cut him some slack... add something constructive or STFU...

another thing to consider is any sensors that might affect the abs or speedo imput... sure it may physically fit, but are the electronics going to work w/ the new setup????

might be worth finding an OEM swap to get it right... is this a "classic" '07???

yes you are.

in the 6years i have owned my truck i have spent around 7k on it including
initial cost 1500
36 tsls 400
37 boggers new 1300
d60 300
tranny swap to 465 400
d44 repairs 250
2 drive shafts 500
2 winches 800
motor 1500

there is a lot tied up in fix it and matainace too.

but i have more fun beating and wheeling that thing then any thing i have ever done. you probably wont have that 40k truck for more than 3 years before you get tired of it or just want a newer becuase your neighbor got one that was bigger than yours.

i have only spent $4k on my 74 to buy it and build it. 2007 vehicles dont cost 1500, pieces of shit cost 1500, and even bigger pieces of shit cost 600 like my 74. and then pimp ass people like me flip them around and turn them into something big bad and sweeeeeeeeet! newer trucks cost more to buy stuff for too. last year i spent 3k on my new engine for my 96, 1k on my new tranny, 2k on my rear end and locker, 1500 on my lift, 1k on rims and tires, and thats my labor. add like 5k more if u have someone install it all. and u cant hold onto something forever, u gotta let it go to get something newer and better.

If you're such the fab king, you already know the answer to this question. Gear the axle to match the front (or the ratio you're wanting to use with those tires), set the pinion angle, and make the spring perches line up with your springs.

how can you talk down about a new truck?

We're more talking down about said truck's douche bag owner than the truck itself.

its nice to have something new that you can ride in comfort, and still have the beautiful lifted truck look.

The fact that riding in comfort and going for a "look" over performance shows how little you belong here.

you cant knock it til u try it.
