I have a 1983 bronco and im not sure what gears are in the front end, is there any way of finding out without tearing it apart? Somebody swapped a 9" in the rear and I need to make sure the gears match.....

I think stock they came with either 3.08's or 3.55's but have also heard some came with 4.10's but not sure. also the 9 inch might be stock for those years, check and make sure that it doesnt still have the tags on it.

Well all I know is, this one isnt stock. The perches didnt even line up, I had to re-weld them. I guess it wouldnt be that hard to pull the shafts and the chunk up front to check the gears....

Does the front have a lsd or locker? If so, jack it up, chalk the pinion and chalk the tire and the ground. Count the turns of the pinion to get one full tire rotation. If open diff, lift one tire, do the count, divide by 2.

Jack the front end up with the tires off the ground, lock the hubs & turn the wheels an even 1 turn together & count the turns on the pinion flange. You should be able to tell what gear ratio you have this way, it's gust like checking the rear 9".

its probably 3.55... alot of our trucks came with that ratio...

yea, I forgot about just doing one side and dividing by 2.... that makes alot more sense right now. Thanks, I was just seeing if there was anykind of tag or code that said it.
