: Is it usual for FF60 rear lugs to be LHT on one side?

I was disassembling the FF60 rear that came in my 79F250 today, and not until I had snapped off 2 of the wheel lugs (BIG props to the new impact wrench:eek: ) did I realise that the damn lugs on one side were left hand thread.

Is this normal?

Seemed strange to me - never heard talk of it before.

are you sure it isn't a 70?? my 70 has right and left handed threads on it.

I think it a Ford thing more than a Dana 60 thing...

I 've never heard of Ford doing that. Dodge yes, Ford no. A friends '67 Dart had left and right hand threads on the lug nuts. The left handed ones had a 'L' on the end of the stud. Never seen on a truck though.:(

I forget the year thing, but I know that if you get a 60 or 61 or 70 from 80sih Ford 2wd, it is common.

68 ford bronco-- NO
94 ford bronco-- NO
01 Excursion -- NO
79 Ford D60 under 94 bronco -- NO
97 Ford 10.25 under 94 bronco -- NO

Wow, kinda interesting

Not really seeing a pattern...guess I should be a little more thoughtful :D

If you saw the mouth breather I bought the truck from, you'd understand that I can really make no claim whatsoever as to the true origin of the axle. All I know is that it is definately a FFD60 rear, about 64" wms, 30 spline, and came loosely attached to a 79 F250.

What amazes me is that it took me 2 studs to figure it out....in fact I was breaking the third when I though "Hmm...maybe if I switch to forward I can ram it on a bit, and then work it off more easily" So I flipped it to F, pulled the trigger, and damn if it didn;t spin right off.

dayum...call me suprised:eek:

Guess I should leave delicate engine work to someone else

The 2wd 78 F250 D60 that I got was 68" wide, right hand threads, 1/2" lugs, 4.10s, with small brakes.

The left hand threads for Fords are usually found on vehicles with 3" wide rear brakes from 69-89 some DRW, some SRW.
