I pulled my C4 tonight, have to replace the C5 belhousing with a C4 so everything lines up.
I noticed some sliver stuff at the bottom of the tranny, not much but enoght to make me wonder. I hate to spedn $100 to have shop tell me it's toast.
Is any bad? A little normal?
Is it in the bell housing with the torgure converter? or the Oil pan? If in the bell housing then it is just wear and tear from the starter and ring gear chewing each other up. Normal.

If it was out of the pan, look at it real close. You will see that there is brass and copper coloured in there too. This is normal for a tranny. You would see the same in your oil if you didn't have a filter to catch it.
Did it work when you pulled it out? If so put back in and will work the same.
It's in the pan and tranny. I pulled the T-case off by taking of the adaptor between the tranny and T-case. I could see straight in to the rear of the C4. I would say there is enough silver junk I can see to make up two silver dollars.
I bought this tranny, so I never ran it. They Yard I got it from said they pulled it from a running truck and marked it as good.
One last problem, when I pulled the pan the tube that stick out the filter to the bottom of the oil pan is missing! Any one know where to get one or how to make one?
I'm starting to think I should return this Auto for another.
Thanks for the help guys.

The c6 I just rebuilt was missing the pick up as well. Just bought one form the tranny shop, $2. I would rebuild it before you put it in. Grab a c4 out of a pinto and use it. I think the rebuild kits for a c4 with converter and shift kit run right about $150-200.
If it is 'Silver' (read: Aluminum) and not the 'Yellow' of Bronze from the clutch plates then something has been chewing up the case. Can't be good. The only debry you should see is clutch plate material.

Thanks Alpo23 and emsoffroad, you guy have some great knowledge.
Yep it's silver. I'm going to try and "return" the combo for another, we'll see how good the guy's word is who sold it to me.
I'll also be looking for a Auto from a 2WD, I'll try my hand at re-building that. If nothing else I'd to learn how to rebuild one and having a spare can't hurt.
