: Front Driveline Angle

I wheel a 73 chevy shortbed with 6" procomp springs and a d60 up front. The front driveshaft seems to sit at a pretty steep angle ,due to its short length i am assuming, and if i go at it a little to hard and get the front tires off the ground the droop on the front end causes the pinion ujoint and the cv to bind up a little and will cause ujoint failure.I as wondering how i could lessen this angle and make life a little bit easier on my ujoint/driveshaft. Also i am running a np205 and 39.5's if it helps. Thanks for your time. I am new to trail/rock rigs.

did you drop your transfer case at all. Your probably need to make some 2 inch drop brackets to lower the t case then you should be fine. one thing to double check once you did this is to rotate the driveshaft and make sure the u joint does not bind on the driveshaft when it rotates. with a 2 inch drop you should be fine and if you already did this you should be fine with how it is.

its really easy all you have to do is, when the t case cross member bolts to the frame you can use either tubed steal about 2 inches long and use longer bolts which will move the cross member down along with the t case or use blocks, anyway you want to space it 2 inches from the frame. that should work out just fine

Make sure when done you jack your rig up by the frame/bumper - one end at a time till the tires are coming off the ground - and check those joints with a light to make sure you have some clearance. A little grinding on the yokes can pick up a couple inches drop real easy.

X2

I have 8" of lift and I did not drop my t-case at all. I just ground the inside of the CV a little and now it doesnt bind anymore. Good Luck.

ya i did the same thing. i didn't drop my crossmember either.I just grind those stops off the double cardon thingy, and i had no problem with it binding, and havn't blew out a u-joint yet ( knock on wood), plus im running a square drive shaft, which solved the problem of my slip yoke pullin apart when i topped my front suspension out

Here you go! this will keep you from blowing shafts, I think it is on about the 3rd page? I will be building another one soon so I will get some updated pics of the new design.:D

Dropping the transfer case will only make the front drive line angle worse, it will increase the operating angle of the front u joint ,because you are pivoting on the motor mounts ,thus only lowering the rear of the drive train.
Think about it.

Change yokes if you have the flat plate style and run a single u joint, I did it with 8" of lift. Or you could degree the front more.

ya droppin your transfer case will deffinetly worsen your front driveshaft angle, ur rite about pivitin on the motor mounts, so you just need to go buy a high pinion 60. LOL

Just grind the inside of the CV like we said before. I really does make a big difference. I ground mine all the way around the inside of the cv anywhere it was possible to rub. It took me about 1/2 hr with a burr grinder.
