: Shorter parking brake cables?

Ok, I just eliminated about 20 inches from my wheel base. Dealing with suspension changes, hydro brake line relocation, and cutting the shaft are not a big deal. However, I'm not sure what to do about the parking brake cables. I'm sure there is someone in Phoenix who makes cables but have no idea who it is. Better yet, is there anyway to shorten this thing myself or build my own.

I know some of you guys change wheel bases more often than some people change their oil. What do you guys do? Those who actually keep functional mechanical parking/emergency brakes that is.

Also thinking it might be cool to go ahead and get a hand brake while I’m at it. Like a Pinto or something from a bone yard. Maybe 2, and have each side controlled separately (cutting brakes). Useless right now with the Detroit in back but, when I acquire the ability to go front drive it would be sweet. Either way I need some custom cables…

Yes, I did a search. I know about the Locar (sp?) universal kits, and I know about controlcables.com. I'm just thinking (along with others who had the same question on other threads but got no answer) that there should be some way to DIY.

You dont say what kind of vehicle but if it is a fullsize you may try the cables from the corresponding SUV(Ford-Bronco,, Chevy-Blazer ,, Dodge--ramcharger)

Id say to do this... bring a small toolbox, your coveralls, and a
measuring tape. pay your 2 bucks to go into the local pick n pull,
and start hunting. you're bound to find something that will work.
goven the fact you haven't identified what kind of drivetrain you
are working with, this is about all the tech reply you're going to
get.

I dunno about the Chevies, but the Fords all use the same brake cables in the back. They run up to the frame rail to that balance bar, and attach to the front cable. The front one is different lengths depending on the wheelbase.

Sorry guys, the info on my rig is in my sig. I guess I should have been more specific.

As for using something from a Blazer or other GM, the cable setup is different and my wheel base doesn't match anything from the GM factory close enough to use.

Finding something on another make that can be cobbled into the existing K30 setup doesn't seem likely, but, maybe that is what it will come to...

BTW, one of the other posts I saw (while searching) mentioned having a new end "swedged" on. Since I only need to cut 20" out of my cable, maybe that would work, if I knew what it was! :D

Just tie the excess up in a circle! ;)

Cut your cable to the length that you need and them use the cable clamps on it....Works like a charm!
