I don't think anyone has ever done one yet on a Scout box.
scoutdeuce 02-26-2007, 03:36 PM well...the saginaw box on a scout is almost identical to a fords saginaw box(both located on the outside of the frame)...so i should think that someone out there has tapped em...
Harvester of Sorrow 02-26-2007, 03:43 PM Ok...It must be Tuesday somewhere...:shaking:
Personally...I would do this first...Take care of your sloppy steering.
Sloppy steering is sloppy steering regardless of any hydro this or hydro that...
Google is your friend on this one man...
Docfranco 02-26-2007, 04:02 PM I don't think anyone has ever done one yet on a Scout box.
I am with Shadow....I think you are a pioneer. Let us know if it can be done....:smokin:

Really? Cool. I thought it was a Nissan box.
Get back to us when you find the instructions.
Oh, while you are "Searching", can you find the correct rear 4 link upper/lower lengths I need for the Dana 70 under my Scout? I am pulling the leafs off and really need that info. TIA.

scoutdeuce 02-26-2007, 07:57 PM i just figured it out!!...sooo easy, dont know why more people do it this way...all you have to do is take off the two caps(one on the back that is held on by the large snap ring, and the other is the one with 4 bolts in it on top)and tap those...its all adds up...i took the box apart and those two caps are on opposing sides of the piston that turns the gear...sooooo then just to make sure i took out the old scout bible and looked at the fluid dynamics chart for the box the two caps are in the opposing high pressure chambers!!:smokin: ill let you guys know how it turns out tomorrow... thanks for the advice
Shadow man 02-26-2007, 09:50 PM Hey Scoutdunce thanks for the tech. Did you find the measurements for my rear links yet?
Hurry up I'm waiting. :shaking:

fucking dumbshit.
USarmyEngineer 02-26-2007, 09:57 PM That's by far the best place to tap the box...
It's really great thin aluminum that holds tapped threads perfectly:shaking: !
No really, it may seem like the "best" place but I think it's the easiest place.
I fell for that one.
scoutdeuce 02-27-2007, 12:25 PM wow ok im the fucking dumbshit...when i tap my steering box without having to to take the whole thing apart(to do it properly) ill let you know how much of a dumbass you are!!:flipoff2: thin aluminum is bad but can be remedied with a little tig and a little 7/16 ID aluminum bung or pipe etc...think about it, how easy would it be to just send off your two caps to get r done instead of the whole box...my girlfreind is making me hang out with her today so i might have to post tomorrow...

And when your tapped caps crack and fly off the steering box at hypersonic speed, dumping all your PS fluid and spraying it all over your hot exhaust manifold causing the engine to catch on fire inturn buring your entire rig to the ground... we'll all point our fingers at your charred remains strapped in your rig and say, "Ha ha... you stupid fuckin' retread.... we told ya."
Easier ≠ better. Now back to the peanut gallery with you.... Next.
guidolyons 02-27-2007, 02:07 PM Im a fucking dumbshit cumdumpster and my testicles haven't decended yet...my girlfreind is making me hang out with her today so i might have to post tomorrow...
Grow a hair on your sack and tell her you're busy working on your Scout. If she doesn't like it, then she isn't worth having around. A Real Scout lovin' woman would come over and help you tap her steering box.
Now tap that box before Mechanos and his super new Bowflex sculpted biceps shows you how it's done.
Here, just get some :rainbow: ghey homo bling-bling hydro-ass caps, make sure you leave them unprotected so everyone can see them and them bash them on the curb at the mall and loose all your PS fluid: EMS Offroad http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jeep-Bronco-Rock-GM-Hydro-Assist-Steering-Cap_W0QQitemZ280080699463QQcmdZViewItem

You might have to run this drag link to minimize binding though, shouldn't give too bad of bumpsteer.

Can I buy those lift blocks on ebay? That's dope!
misterfubar 03-02-2007, 11:44 AM Can I buy those lift blocks on ebay? That's dope!
You can build them yourself out of some 2x4's. Just cut them to fit and stack them until you get the desired height. Use some good quality deck screws to hold them together. I couldn't find any u-bolts long enough so I just bent myself some all-thread. I'm going to use some lowering springs in combination with about 15" of wooden lift blocks. Should flex like crazy.
Now I just need to find some 44 inch thornbirds that will fit a 24" wheel. :shaking:

So tell me why the ported aluminum cap is "ghey homo bling"?
On a SII, the cap won't stick forward/down and be in danger of becoming a curb feeler.
Seems like it'd be strong enough to deal with the pressure, and it's clearly an easy thing to install.
Snoopy 03-02-2007, 12:04 PM :smokin: ~ I'll be sure to use the 2x2 on the top and bottom so I can put in a center pin ~ that way I can extend the wheel base to where I want it.
Shadow man 03-02-2007, 01:38 PM That shit must be from Texass. :D
Almost 30 years ago when 40" Super Swampers came out, I put a set on a F-350 4x4. It had a decent spring lift kit and I cut the shit out of the fenders to get them to fit..
I remember then those tires cost me over $1,200 for 4.
It was built for mudding.
Anyways the truck was the tallest in town. The guy in town that did have the tallest truck came by and was all upset that he was no longer the tallest. He has 36s.
A week later he came by to let me know he was the tallest again.
I shit you not, he installed wood blocks between his axles and springs to lift it! Two feet of all thread, timber blocks and flat plate.
mtroy 03-03-2007, 08:20 AM Here is where West Texas Off Road ported mine for my SII box. I will say that I had to use a 90 degree bend hose fitting at the box or it would have hit the big motor mount.
nooblet 03-03-2007, 08:26 AM Why'd you have to go and bring Texas into the conversation? Just because Texans like big trucks more than other states doesn't mean all the trucks here are kustom. Just most of them :flipoff2:
Its not our fault we have a plethora of scrap iron and farm equipment laying around everywhere!
Chris
P.S. I do however have to admit I love this truck...

Tom, you're right, the caps are a better option than the one he inquired about, which was tap the superthin stock end cap. That's why I posted the pics/link, I was giving him a hard time that 2 seconds of searching google and PBB would have found the info he was looking for.
I guess I over did it...damn it's tough being an E-bad-ass:flipoff2::D

OK, whew. :)
I stumbled across those caps and thought "That's a neat idea - clockable fitting and MUCH better than tapping that thin stock cap on the end of the box.."
Tapping the box may still be preferable, but putting on an extended cap with a port would elminate (on a SII) any "something is in the way" problems. It's also a handy way to avoid a complete tear down (depending on how you solve the other port you'd still need).
A stouter top cap that's ported would be a good thing to sell.
scoutdeuce 03-07-2007, 01:03 AM why would a "stouter" top cap be needed? i tapped mine and is over a half inch thick where i tapped it... there are more than enough thread there to bottom out the fitting...
