I'm picturing a 6.0L... and from what I can picture the Thermostat is kind of off to the left side, minding its own business. Think it would be apparent if thats the leak or not. Never heard of a common coolant leak on those engines, but not a lot of experience with them myself.

My heater hose blew out. That leak was REAL obvious..

Yeah, not really a whole lot to "tear into"

shopteach, you might have a leak coming from the throttle body heating lines that are just above that..... that is if you haven't for sure figured out your leak yet.

other than that, plan to likely replace the thermostat housing and just replace the t-stat while you are at it

Damn near every coolant leak I have fixed on the ls engines has been just the w/p to engine block seals. Very easy to fix. :smokin:

thanks for the help...is the w/p to block seal a gasket or rtv?

its a metal flange with o-rings around the ports. also it seems like coolant seeps past the bolts also, so a little rtv on the threads will help there too.

I would just put a new water pump on it we have problems with the gasket between block and pump seaping if you buy a GM pump they come loaded with a new thermostat and thermostat housing 6 bolts and your done pipe seal the pump bolts like the old ones I know that just bolting a whole new pump one isn't the proper thing to do but it will save you from ripping it apart agian in couple months I'm a GM tech so i know what I'm talking about, shopteach keep up the good work

here is what was wrong; the water pump to engine gaskets were bad allowing antifreeze to seep through one of the mounting bolts. good cleaning, new gaskets, and rtv on the bolts. fixed
