Getting ready to prime and paint my d44 and d60. POR-15 says that it does not chip or scrape off; especially usefull when it comes to rock crawling. Has anyone used their POR-15 and the chassis coat paint? Is it worth the $$?
Do you really need to apply the etcher spray to bare metal or does the POR-15 bond well enough without it?
I read their FAQ and searched, but I want to know what you guys have found out from experience.
I don't want to use the farm implement paint b/c I haven't found it in black yet, just :rainbow: colors and I'm not painting my running gear to look like a funny car. The implement paint is :nuke: tough!
Is the Hammerite paint better than the POR stuff?

If this is a show vehicle then its worth the money…. Maybe,
I have used POR15 a couple times in the past and probably will never use it again.
I have used it with etch and without the results seemed to be the same
If it’s for a gay mall cruiser use the fancy high dollar stuff. If your gonna wheel it, then just use some Rustoleum. It’s easy to touch up.
:)
And one more thing. POR15 is just epoxy.. Nothing more, nothing less its no super paint by any means

I am doing a frame off build on my CJ so I have been using alot of POR 15 and even bought the chassis coat. I like the POR 15 for the frame and stuff but I wouldnt use it on axles. I actually used the chassis coat on my rear 9 inch and it looks like shit compared to spray bombing the hammerite. Save the money and buy some more     Hammerite or the Krylon farm paint are easier, cheaper and more gooder. RK

Thanks Rob- good to hear. Looks like I'll go with the Hammerite paint and save me some big $$. Spend my $$ on the other type of can. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/bier.gif

Hey, where is the best place to get that Krylon farm implement paint? Is it available in colors other than :rainbow: pink?

Check this site out for colors and info: http://www.krylon.com/paint/ps_color_card_farm.htm
I've bought it at Home Depot, Annapolis Automotive, and Bowen's Farm Supply. Great paint and great prices too.

I used POR 15 when I did my axles.
It works good if you want to paint something that's rusty, but unless you want to spend a year with the angle grinder going through wire brush cups, save your money. It doesn't adhere worth a shit to anything even remotely smooth.

I used POR-15 on a couple of parts and it seems to be holding up well. The one nice thing is that a little bit of the POR-15 goes a long way and none of the rusty parts have yet rusted through the paint.
The downside is the clean up if you get any on your skin.

After I lengthened my frame and finished the new rear bumper I painted everything with POR-15 and chassis coat black.
I used the metal-ready.
Turned out well and is holding up great.
Yeah, a little goes a long way.
Clean up sucks real bad, If it dries on your skin, forget it, its not coming off.
i thought it sucked and was a waste of money. if you drive on slated roads in the winter dont bother, it will come right off
