I've searched but got confusing info. I need a brief low-down. Buddy has ~39x14 TSLs on a stock CJ-7 D30, SOA and has a turning radius of a bus! (no wonder) Sooo...

What donor has slightly wider D44 or D60 axles with pass. side drop that would have CJ style steering arm holes? Or possibly is there a suitable D44 that he can put his CJ knuckles on so the steering would work as is now? I heard of Scout D44 maybe or Chevy/Dodge D44 or D60 but don't have exact years and models. We're looking for the simplest and cheapest way to get a little more strength and width. We would consider shortening the long side tube too if that's what's needed depending on axle. Thanks for any info.

? His steering linkage won't work with a wider axle. You can put the D30 knuckles on the Chevy/Dodge/FSJ D44s if the knuckles don't have the caliper mounts cast in - if they do, you have to grind them off and use the caliper bracket that comes with the D44.

What year CJ? (IE, is it narrow or wide?)

It's an '82 CJ-8 actually. My booboo. So it's wide I guess?

...why not just get wheels with less offset?

39's on a CJ D30, how does that axle hold up? Is it locked?

Get something Chevy (44 or 60) or old dodge for the passenger side drop. Just get both front and rear so your ratios and widths match (unless he already bulit up the rear).

For a really tigh budget spacers will work, I think around $150/pair

Wagoneer (74-79) 44's are only 4" wider than wide track CJ axles. Search on Wagoneer 44 for more info since it's been beat to death.
