Series Ones are rare, but there are quite a few around. that is the Long Wheelbase pickup version, which has a 109" wheelbase. depending on year, standard length models had either 80, 86, or 88" wheelbases.

stock they came with either a 1.6L inline 4 or a 2.0L inline four, both of which put out very very little power and were essentially pieces of junk.

they had weak 4spd transmissions.

ok transfer cases, 2.8:1 low, pass offset front and rear, 1.2:1 high ratio

SHITTY axles, 1930s design sprial bevel diffs with D30 sized ring gear, the rears were SFs, with 1.1" dia 10 spline shafts. closed knuckle fronts, early models had tracta joints, then u joints.

all aluminum bodies, a few hundred '52s had aluminum firewalls, but they are very rare. all others had steel firewalls and grill panels, which are very very prone to rusting to hell. replacements are available, at significant cost.

the frames were the best part about these rigs. they were about 6x4 thin wall fully boxed and very strong.

the suspension was a decently flexy spring under configuration, which with a few leaves removed from the springs and some longer shocks, could flex damn good for a stock spring under truck.

you could fit 7.50x16 (32") tires stock, with some rubbing at the tops of the fender wells.

you can currently buy comeplete galvanized frames for them, along with galvinized bulkheads and grill panels.

go to your local barnes and noble and pick up a copy of Land Rover Enthusiast, Land Rover Owner International, Land Rover World, or Land Rover Monthly. all are EXCELLENT magazines imported from the UK, and are about 120pgs thick and cost about 8 bucks each.

anything else you wanna know? i know about all there is to know :D

here is my friends 1952 80" wheelbase Series I on 7.50x16s. his has one of the aluminum bulkheads (and its tweaked from hitting a rock at that).

almost all of the parts from later model leaf sprung land rovers can swap in to these trucks- engine, transmission, transfer case, axles, etc.

the later trucks had a 2.25L motor which put out about 65hp, but can easily be tuned to 100 or more.

100hp in a truck that weighs about 1300lbs!!! it moves DAMN quick

yeah scout II PS box- most common series land rover power steering setup.

birfields were by far not just a toyota thing- they are commonly referred to as CV joints and you will find them EVERYWHERE.

That truck is bad ass, i met him in Moab this year at the EJS, didn't get his name though, and yes thats a scout 2 steering box. I seen him lay it over on Golden Spike at Double Wammy i believe, Did no damage to the truck, he was a really nice guy, gave me 2 bolts off of his winch mount so i could bolt my steering box back on.

I think that might be the coolest rig I have ever seen. The originallity factor on that thing is off the charts. In short, I want one...

I think the discs are "custom" like EVERYTHING else on the rig

Cooper is an inspiration to all rover people. He is the reason I scrounged through junkyards to get my eaton.

Walk up to anyone driving a series rover and ask them "do you know Timm Cooper" and its like "I know of him"

He is very nice, a complete technophobe (no email, no internet which makes everything he does that much more impressive and original), and a complete fabrication master.

You name it he has put it in a rover. 5.9 cummins, 3.4 cummins, SBC, Small block ford, any american trans, suspenion of all varieties, lengthened trucks, wicked axles, custom body styles.

Ron

PS you know the sad part is those funky british 60 fronts were selling for 35UKP a year ago
