: lug pattern
RJR-JR 03-03-2007, 01:22 PM I am looking at picking up a 9" from a 69 Ford F100
Does anyone know the lug pattern on it? I've been all over google and I've found the answer to be 5x4.5" and 5x5.5"
...Even further I've read that the 5x4.5" pattern was cars only. Let me know what you know. It's the right width but I'm afraid the lug pattern is gonna be wrong for me.
rf_blazer 03-03-2007, 01:28 PM 5x5,5.5 I believe is the most common pattern. 7.5 and 8.8's I know generally have the 4.5"
Yea it is 5x5.5 for sure, that isnt a banjo housing and its a pretty narrow track if its from a 2wd.
RJR-JR 03-03-2007, 03:40 PM Yeah general concensus is its 5 on 5.5"
The guy I was talking to said he measured it and from WMS to WMS it was right around 60". Some internet sites I've found said 61"
Regardless, my factory axle in my Jeep is 60.5" WMS to WMS so 60 or 61 will be perfect.
What do you mean by Banjo housing?
A banjo housing is where the centersection has a large part that sleaves the axle tubes and is welded along the trussing making a much stronger housing. I dont have any pics right now but search 'banjo nine inch' into ebay or a search and something should come up. That will be perfect for an xj good luck

Odd, I thought it was the other way around
69 broncosport 03-04-2007, 04:26 PM All early broncos and all full size PU's and broncos were 5 on 5.5"
RJR-JR 03-04-2007, 04:43 PM Well banjo or not I am going to build a truss for the axle.
I am gonna pick this one up, and have it re-drilled to 5x4.5". Should work out great for my Cherokee.
Yea it is about the right width, was perfect for a Dakota, but we cant find a front axle to match well so we might go full width in the rear too.
45acp 03-05-2007, 04:01 AM Odd, I thought it was the other way aroundYears and years ago, some popular Bronco parts vendor listed it on their site and in their catalogs as the other way around as a typo. As time went on, the wrong way of saying it got passed around by word of mouth. :)

Not true. The F100 was 5 on 4.5" for several year models.

Not true. The F100 was 5 on 4.5" for several year models.
Must be pre-'67, cause everything from then on is 5 on 5.5".
welndmn 03-05-2007, 09:13 AM Most likely 5 on 5.5.
BUT 9 inch's can't be sure of anything.
Ford put what ever they wanted, how ever they wanted.
Only your tape measure can tell you for sure.
Also, pull an axle shaft, could be 28 or 31 spline as well.
Alright thanks for the explanation 45acp
45acp 03-06-2007, 06:37 AM Must be pre-'67, cause everything from then on is 5 on 5.5".I dont know exactly which years, but i know for a fact early 80's F100 were 5 on 4.5. That rearend is highly sought after by dirt trackers around here.
YamanX 03-06-2007, 06:43 AM My 82' had a 5 on 4.5.

Interesting, it must be the '80-'83 F-100. Not '61-'66, '67-'72, and purdy sure not the '73-'79.
5.5 for the '71.
