Hey mike 2- 6" pc. 2x4, on one end of the 6" pc. mark 5/8" back and cut to edge that sould put your rails parrallel with the ground the 2x4 across the front 1/4" plate in the center for a winch I do believe all my pics are still on my web page just remember doing it this way puts your springs real close to the frame in front. mine sits real close to my pitman arm so I had to custom do it and its still close http://4play4wheelers.com/sam_frame1.jpg

as you can see the spring is about centered under the front 2x4
hope it helps a little

I added 3 1/2 to my frame i used 4 by 2 square tubing and made brakets on both sides but if i was to do it over again i would do 4 1/2 becouse my shackles still hang out alot Josh

Why not extend it straight from the front of the frame, and get some *free* lift?

Rockrat, what did you have to do about your pitman arm clearance? Move the box up on the frame rail?

thanks scott, that helped alot.......... now i just need to get some tubing and i'll be set........... i only have cj7 front springs up front so i don't need it as far out as you do, i think i'll go 5" or 4" not sure yet, i'll see where my spring hanger and winch sit.........
anyone make there front tube bumper into a air tank too????
thanks

I would go straight off the frame too because it doesn't look like frame extensions then.

well john i could go stright off, but i want my winch to sit level on the front and i want as good of a aproch angle as possible............. i don't need any more lift, my front shaft is hurting now, and until my lengthened one comes in and i see how much more i can go before i need a high angle then i'm only going to take lift out instead of add, i want to remove 1" off the front by adding shorter(or stock) shackles......

Mud-Magnet, I like how you did yours.

I'm running Toyota leafs on mine, so I have an 8 inch extension on the front of my frame. I did a lot of measuring, and for me, I kept the same basic line as the frame, and carried it out further. My main challenge was keeping the pinion angle and castor angle correct on my Toyota axle. Toyota doesn't give you much to error on.

My front suspension build up, for the most part is on this page:

After looking at Mud-Magnets, I think I'll cut off some of my extension and weld in my bumper, winch mount across the tops of my spring mounts. Much cleaner.

I moved the box on the frame up as high as it would go and still be able to bolt all 3 bolts through the frame. then took the stock toy IFS pitman arm and flattened it out pretty much straight, cut it to the length I needed reinfoced the thin side and drilled it for a 5/8" grade 8 bolt then hooked that to a xmt10 heim the pitman arm to frame clearence is about 1/16" but it doesnt rub while turning. my frame xt. I came off pointed up so yes the winch would sit level. at the time there was a method to my maddness in doing it the way. I think it was for approach angle and getting the springs up higher which pushed the front axle out further
my total wb is at 85.5 now, not huge but enough for the time being. and I do have decent approach angle which will be even better once I go to a bigger tire.

Which Winch are you running? It would be nice to have it set down into the frame. This would lessen the amount of air blocked by the winch.

I'm not sure who you were asking here, but I have a Warn 8000 to slip in there. Should work well. (Not the 8274)

Did you guys sleeve the frame extensions to the orgional fram or did you just but the together? Seeme like it would be stronger to sleeve but curoius what you did.

I added plates both sides of each frame rail cut out that stupid tube then inserted a 1/4" plate to fill between the frame and hold the winch it aint going no where.

You can see how I did mine here. I think it came out clean, and it didnt hurt my approach at all.

Here is what I did. I will probably add some plates to the outside of the frame rails later.

to run rear springs up front, whats the LEAST amount of frame extension i need. I plan on mounting a warn 6000 up front, but want to keep the best approach angle possible

about 1" and the 2x4" tubing...... andmount the shackle hangers to the bumper.............it won't be enough for a winch though, so about 4" plus the bumper wouldbe my guess, and cut the grill back a bit.............

I do believe the mounting for that winch is 10.5"x 4-1/4"
so at least 5" and your goint to have to mount front 2 holes through you 2x4 bumper and cut the grill back to make it fit. or you winch mounting plate will have to overhang the front

Sorry for the crappy pic, but here's what I did on "super sami". For the angle, I cut in the 5/8" difference as rockrat suggested. Instead of just butt-welding it to the frame, I cut the 2x4 8" longer on one side and to a point. This gave me more surface area to weld onto the outside of the frame. I butt welded the back, top and bottom. I extended the frame 10" and used toy IFS springs. Stretched the wheelbase 7" by doing this. BTW, I needed all 10" of the extension to fit the waggy saginaw box.
