I have done a search and am curious on the length difference between the stub for a ford versus chevy/dodge. I got some 35 stubs for my ford and need to know how much I need to cut off. Have seen 1/4" and 1/2". Also does the snap ring groove need to be put back in or is it alrite to run without it. Thanks

5/8 of a inch and yes the groove is needed for proper function

I know people who run w/o snap rings and they're fine.

You have to do a lot more that just chop down the stub and change the spindle bearing to run 35 spline stubs with Ford outers though.

Agree with the snap ring thing. I think in my Warn Premium hub directions it said it is optional.

What else do you have to do to run 35 spliners besides pucks or broach the hubs.
Can you just cut off the end of the axle with a band saw or something? Isn't it heat treated? or does it not matter? I guess probably not since there is really no force on the end of it where you cut off.

The only problem with the snap ring thing is that your shaft can move just enough to chew up the seals between the inner shaft ears and the housing (this happened to me)

You can just chop the axle with a band saw or similar. Then you need 35 spline hubs or flanges. You need the larger spindle bearing also, but there is the problem. The bearing seat taper on the chevy stub will not line up with the spindle bearing location on the Ford Spindle. There will be enough of a difference to allow for slop and the shaft can be jiggled. I don't like that at all. Another solution is to run a spacer to push the Ford spindle out. i have not seen this done or attempted in person so I can't say what it consists of. I think that basically it pushes the spindle out to the right location for the chevy stub. However I'm leary of adding a spacer to that area just like slop worries me.

That's why for now I'm sticking with 30 spliners until I got the $$$ to do it right.
