Hope you don't mind a Jeep guy posting in here...

I'm looking for a 9" rear to put in my CJ. I plan on narrowing it, so I'd like to find one with 31 spline shafts.

What donor vehicles should I be looking for that would have what I need?

Thanks in advance.

By the way, my online searching was more confusing that productive. So before I get flamed, I DID already try that route. Figured I can stand a little abuse as long as I get the info I need. :D

What width are you looking for?

I'm cutting down a Waggy Dana 44 front, and it will be about 58" WMS.

So, I'll cut the 9" to match.

Early Bronco 9". You'd have to check the axle shafts for 31spline though. These axles should be around 60".

Jim--
"Will have..." what is your timeframe? I'm not in a super-huge hurry, but I may be interested. I think I know of a housing.
I'll be in touch. Thanks!

if you going to cut it down anyways...early full size broncos and f150s would have one also...I have a spare one from a 78 f150 in the garage.

I know a guy who took this later style, ground off the weld from the webing to the tube, then just pounded the side in, checked alignment and bingo, 3rd member fit and welded it back up.

I was planning on doing the same thing to a full width 9" rear that I have (since I'm having a had time finding a LOCAL EB width 9) but, I noticed that there is a taper in the tubes a few inches from the end. I know that the ends would not fit the wider portion of the axle after it was cut, so I abandoned the idea.

I'm waiting for my brackets now, They are supposed to be here this week. So I would say maybe 2 weeks and they will be out of my EB

Like everyone is offering, an EB is 58.5 WMS.
try and find a big bearing one, then just get 31 spline axles for it.

The EB axle messures 58'' wms. And the 74' to 77' has the bb ends, but only 28 spline shafts. A better 9" is from a Lincoln Versaillies 77'-81' messures 58 1/2" wms. This axle has disc brakes.
You can also get axle tubes and bb ends from Currie enterprises.
