: Brakes
willysrul 03-06-2007, 11:50 AM I'm trying to get my rig stopped. The truck has swapped in 79 D60's with the huge dual piston calipers in the front and drums in the rear. Anyway I can push the pedal to the floor and feel some brakes but not enough to lock anything up. I also get a little splooge from the MC when I press the pedal to the floor. Do I need to swap to a 68-72 pedal assembly and 68-77 brake booster and MC or......???? What have you guys done to fix this?
Thanks
4XFORD 03-06-2007, 01:13 PM Go hydroboost and ad rear dics, just as easy as fixing the old junk and you''l stop like a SuperDoody
willysrul 03-06-2007, 01:40 PM I have thought about that, but I'm carburated and if my engine dies I still have manual brakes. I also haven't came across a complete hydro system yet in the junkyard. I would also have to make up a bracket to run the pump. If I do go hydro it will be when I plan on finally getting around to putting on my hydro asist stseering as well, that way I can plumb everything at once. Need something that I can get put on with the money in hand and have it working in the next 2 months for our annual run at Tuttle Creek.
Ford_KTM 03-06-2007, 01:56 PM check the adjustment on the rear drums and the throw on the MC...You can adjust them to the right length. Also, make sure they are blead well...What have you tried?? need a little more info...

With a hydroboost if you stall you have power brakes still (1-2 apps). After that it does revert to "true" manual brakes. The hydrboost doesn't fight you like a vacuum booster.
willysrul 03-06-2007, 03:15 PM I have bled them but haven't got around to adjusting them in the rear yet. Could the symptoms I have be a cause of to much fluid going to the rear and thus not letting the fronts supply the majority of the stopping power? and my pedal assembly has a long bolt going through the MC rod which I suspect something under the dash or the MC is not original to this truck. It is a 67 F-100 with a 390 which originally had way smaller axles under it and someone before me made it into a strick mud truck that I am trying to make into a rock truck.
Fordman500 03-06-2007, 03:55 PM Usually if thats the case, the rears will lock up pretty easy. Then its defintetly your brake bias.
wanderer-RRORC 03-07-2007, 01:45 PM jew needa bigga masta sylida...prolly juan fro a threffity...:grinpimp:
thats what I did to mine...used the donor trucks master..more volume to the dual calipers...:smokin:
f250 use the same calipers
I have 78 bronco master feeding dual pistons and chevy rear calipers
it is no where near as bad as you are claiming
adjust the rears as was mentioned. low pedal could be from using a lot of volume to reach the drums
the prop valve does not send anything to the fronts until after ther rears build pressure
if you use all the pedal stroke just to contact the drums before you can build pressure in the rear there isnt going to be much left to feed the fronts
Halogrinder 03-07-2007, 06:57 PM  i know i this is half ton shit, but with my stock front brakes, and disc brake conversion, and using stock m/c i can lock up all 4 tires if i stand on the brakes........
sounds like air in the lines or mis adjusted drum brakes.
drum brakes bring teh suck.
f250rollinon37s 03-07-2007, 11:14 PM bigger MC - if it was a 67 4x4 it had small ass drums - you need something with a larger bore size - if it is too small the front pistons arnt stopping you - even with no power the righ MC will stop it - i had luck with the hydro boost system from a late 80s chevy desiel - took the pump - mc - and booter assy. - will lock all 4 35 " bgf on 1/2 ton axles if you push hard - :flipoff2:
willysrul 03-08-2007, 08:22 AM So if I just put in a later model (bigger MC) with my 67 booster and 67 pedal assembly it should work. Remember this is a 67 F-100 that has 79 D60's under it not the little half ton stuff. I have the stuff to convert to discs in the back but am waiting until the axles get new gears so I can switch everything once with the axle out of the truck.
Thanks
f250rollinon37s 03-09-2007, 02:12 PM what i ment by the 1/2 ton was it will lock up with smaller rotors and drums - as long as the through on the petal is the same as the MC bore travel - then yes - it should work - get a MC for a 78-9 f250 it should bolt up to your early power booster -
willysrul 03-09-2007, 05:02 PM Right on. Thanks for the replies guys I'll post up when I get everything done in a few days or so.
