hi guys

we are looking to develop wheel arch flares (fender flares) for the discovery 2.

We already have a new design for the series 1 and we are confident that with little or no modification we can ready them for the disco 2  .

we need to know the specs most people are running and where the problems are with body and wheel contact.

I have been informed that it is common with 33s hitting the upper part of the arch.

look forward to your replys :p

What is your projected retail price?

I think the fender flares offered by D.A.P. here in the US are nice, .........but not for what they have to charge for them.

There would be more interest in flares if the price was really great. Here in the US, we're not too concerned about cutting up the fenders ...

The rear door and the rear of the front fender arch were the areas that I had to trim when I went with 34"s. After that (35"+), the rear of the rear arch becomes an issue as well as the front of the front arch.

this should give some idea of the cutting involved on a rrc

about 2 inches allround

And below my disco series 1

this allows fitment of 36 x 12.5.

i see the disco 2 has a slightly larger outer wing openeing.what kind of tyres are you running.

and yes we are trying to design something cost effective for the usa marketplace

Why do they all have to have the :rainbow: pocket style mounting screws. Make some with hidden screws (that mount from the inside like a Defender) and I would be much more likely to buy some. Until then, they look too much like cheap Bushwhacker flares that belong on a mud truck.

Not that you asked for a critique of your design but I will give one anyway

Why not make them look like the factory DII flare just with a larger opening? The shape of the factory opening is appealing where the design you have above (and the rangie spares) looks like something that should be on a Jeep TJ or Cherokee.

Just my personal opinion but the factory shaped flare looks sooo much better.

Sorry to bump this back up.

Is there anymore info on these flares - looking for and alternative to the LRA flares for the Disco.

Cheers
Dave.

I tend to agree with Dave Lucas's comments on the design. The factory flares fit the D2's design well. I'm running Simex 34x11.5, (35.2x12) and these still manage to tuck in behind the guards with factory offset rims, though with more offset the guards will need a hell of a lot more cutting than the 1" trim around the guards than what I've given mine.

I don't really mind the pocket style fasteners my self. I would consider buying a set of those if they weren't on the wrong side of the ocean. How come someone over here hasn't made any yet?

I Think the wheel arches on the Disco 1 look great. someone mentioned that it looks like something that goes on a mud truck....as if the Disco is a hardcore rockbuggy.

Apologies for bringing this one from the dead...but have a new project and, given my experience with the Rangie Spares flares (fiberglass) was wondering whether I should consider these (if anyone know my truck(s) they know it is not about beauty :shaking:)

Anyways...are these more durable? I've shattered a couple of RS flares in the past and would prefer using something less fragile this time around...

Cheers...

Nadim,

For whatever beauty pagent starlet you're working on - we can discuss this afternoon - I would use the Pacer flexi-flares. They come in rolls and you cut to suit your needs. They're cheap as chips and flexible so don't mind contact with trees and rocks etc. These are the 4" on the Tonka but they come in 2" and 3" as well:

Hey Richard...

Tonka looks great as always...issue with this Disco build is that its a 4 door, so rear door hacking is imperative and not sure how to dress it up nicely without those "two wall" flares...Its not my truck...or else you know what I'd do :flipoff2:

I'm contemplating simply not putting any flares at all...the laws in Lebanon (as you know, but most don't) are very dodgy, but cleaning up the rear doors is the issue...we'll see...

Nadim,

If it's for Lebanon, I think your instinct is right - clean up what you hack off, paint it purdy and forget the flares - they will be difficult at best on a 5 door.

Kid4lyf - it's the light and the camera. Up close it's all fawked up:eek:
