: My 1968 Scout 800 build up.
familywheelin 03-07-2007, 07:33 AM So it begins....as of yesterday evening I am the proud of my first Scout.
We picked it up for what I feel is almost a steal of a price. Good deal so far and the wife is happy too.
I will take a bunch more pics in the morning and add some details.
But for now it has;
a chevy 283 v8,
muncie 4 speed,
Dana 18 transfer case,
Dana 27 Front axle,
Ford 9" out back(maybe)
31" mud terrains on white steelies
Full interior :)
Everything works
SOOOOO... that means no real hard....lol.... bashing on this one...thank gawd its a lot more narrow than what I am used to.
For now I am going to change the starter solenoid, put a spool in the 9" and fix the WINCH...yup WE HAVE A DAMN WINCH....but we need a new winch cable.
A few pics after it got on the trailer at the home depot parking lot to get new straps...lost mine in transit and took my wonderful wife to a nice restaurant......well it some times costs a little extra to get what you want.

lagit_fj40 03-07-2007, 08:33 AM thats a cool find. do you plan on a spring over any time soon? i just got my first scout so i know what your feeling......what have i got my self into:flipoff2:
familywheelin 03-07-2007, 08:36 AM Well we have left overs from our 3/4 ton GMC such as dana 44 front, 14 bolt FF, and a 400 sb. So after our move to AZ we are most likely going to go full width with that drivetrain. For now just spool the 9" fix a starter solenoid and off we go.
Snoopy 03-07-2007, 10:07 AM Looks like a heck of a rig to start with. I've built several Scout 800s, take a look at my buildup page:

Urban Wheeler 03-08-2007, 06:00 PM First off, you got it for a "steal", how much? Second, if you are going to put a 14b out back, then fuck the 44 front and go with a 60.
Now, what it that thing or things on the ront bumper? And the shackles, they don't look factory to me, Maybe that's an RS?
In any case, be sure to keep this thread updated with pics and I'll add it to the FAQ.

okay.... lets see....
$900.00 bucks out the door. re[lace the starter solenoid drained 3 year old gas and re filled started her up drove around the block, climed a tree stump.. found out some un truths about the drivetrain...lol
is a 27 up front and a dana 18 trans case, still un decided as to the rear end but belive it to be stock with power lock.
the shackels have "CONFER" stamed on them
there is a 9000lb warn winch that is between the radiator and the grill, hence the fairlead sticking out from down below.
And yes I will keep it updated. Thanks for the interest... I love this lil international allready.

Where are you moving to in Az?
There is a few of us down here. We don't wheel very hard for the most part.

Tucson:D Happy to get out and see the sun a lil bit more than in the NW.
Mechanos 03-09-2007, 07:32 AM Nice platform to start from. Now, PLEASE invest in the proper equipment to tie that thing down to your trailer. That come along cable routed through the springs like that is pure shit! In the first pic I thought it was a piece of kite string!!!
familywheelin 03-09-2007, 08:56 AM sometimes when you drive 2 hours to a new city and stp to go eat you come back out and don't notice that your propper straps are missing from the bed of your truck untill you use your come along to pull the new rig up and go to attach said straps only to find they are no longer in the bed;( anyhow we only drove it like that till we got to the home depot to buy new ones;) so that is when I took the pics....thanks for looking out though.
