: All stripped down and ready to go
wngrog 05-22-2002, 08:39 AM I guess I am as ready as I will ever be on starting to put the LT-1 in.
As of now I have pulled the whole drivetrain out, sold the 2F and the SM465.
I installed a 1" body lift in hopes that I will have a flat belly pan/skidplate when it is all said and done.
I stuck my gauges in the new gauge panel to see how they look.
I will be running a Tach, Volt, Oil Pressure, Water Temp and Tranny Temp in the dash and Fuel under the dash.
I have a 4 core aluminum radiator from Man-a-Fre that fits in the stock location with a built in tranny cooler. It is VERY sweet.
I will be using the Firebird electric fans.
I have a 16" Lokar shifter and a new (unmolested) tranny hump.
I guess that is all. I am going to take an air chisle to the old motor mounts this weekend and then load her up for the trip to Sunray Engineering for the wiring job.
These guys also built me a 1" adapter to mate my Atlas to the 4L60E and had my tailshaft machined.
It is really nice to have a "one-stop-shop" like Sunray so close.
I am going into this PRAYING that they can get the wiring done with minimal hassle.
Minimal hassle = minimal per hour charge.
Say a prayer for me. :)
wngrog 05-22-2002, 08:41 AM Here is the "cavity"
wngrog 05-22-2002, 08:43 AM How do you like the tires? It was a BITCH to work on with the 42's!
I figure I will save 5 hours of labor time with these on the truck!
gunracer1 05-22-2002, 08:57 AM i pray that your credit card has a high limit. good luck
COMPLAINE 05-22-2002, 09:05 AM Gotta love the way it looks on 31's?

Sunray is CASH only...that is what I like.....
I have to have the jack before I take it out! Just hope I estimated correctly
:flipoff2:
fj40charles 05-22-2002, 03:41 PM Looking good Nolen. Can't wait to see the LT1 motor in there.
CK
fj40tom 05-22-2002, 03:57 PM Very Nice!!! No more 45 mph down the highway. How long do they think it is going to take?
tp
60seriesguy 05-22-2002, 05:33 PM I'm guessing it won't take too long, right? It's the middle of the wheeling season! :)

coyote 05-22-2002, 07:02 PM Nolen, wiring isn't that difficultm get a painless and follow the instructions....or wire it strand by strand......
High5 05-22-2002, 07:09 PM cool!!!! man you are going to love the auto and v8. it ought to pull those "garage tires" pretty good :D

I saw a painless wiring harness once and almost fainted!
AA wanted $800 for the parts to adapt my 10 spline Atlas to the 4L60E, Sunray wanted $200.
Sunray get's $45 an hour and my job is 100% labor.
They have done it 40-50 times and I trust the job done right the 1st time.
My time in my job is way more valuable than me dicking around with 400 miles of "painless" wires.
Also, this is not a TBI, it is an LT-1 and there is a bunch of shit to do that I can't/won't want to deal with.
Hell, I did not get the VATS (vehicle anti theft sensor) when I got the engine and they have to overide that.
Too much, plus like Henry said, times a wastin'......
I should be on the road the last weekend in June.
I am out of town every weekend until then :)
Good timing huh? ;)
coyote 05-22-2002, 08:04 PM Don't get me wrong I farm out stuff that I don't feel comfortable with and its time consuming and I've done it 2-3 times already, but then again I work in electronics so I would hope that I like that kind of stuff....and Sunray sounds like the compete well with AA.....gotta find someone around here to shave my front and rear 60's.....
orangefj45 05-22-2002, 09:54 PM man, kate sure has changed since i met her!:D
she used to be all cute and innocent and now look at what happened; i guess hanging out with the guys caused a severe texas case of penis envy or something?!:emb:
looks great nolen. you're gonna dig the V8 and auto combo.:smokin:
speaking of cute chicks, how are mom and daughter doing. hope all is well!!!!!!! we have'nt seen any pics of the newest cruiser chick since she was only a couple of days old.:)
wngrog 05-23-2002, 03:45 AM Yeah,
I ran with the v8/Auto boys too often down here and HAD to have it!
The LT-1 is just too smooth on the rocks, once I drove one I had to have one!
Girls are doing GREAT! Thanks for asking!
We took Berkley on Elephant Hill for 8 hours at Cruise Moab and the only peep out of her was laughing when we went through SOB :) (proud Daddy!)

Welcome Newbie V8'er it's about time!
You won't miss the 2F, they are great motors but nothing compared to a fuel injected chev.
I ran the stock motor for 5 years and was happy, then I drove a healthy V8 and haven't looked back.
I have 5 years on a 1993 TBI (daily driver) with zero problems. The only problem I have at present is which Cruiser do I drop my TPI 327 into.
Sixgun 05-26-2002, 07:26 AM Hey Nolen let me know how it works out, I might be up in your neck of the woods soon and am thinking about going LT1. All I would need is the block and wiring done, I've got a TH350 mated to my stock Cruiser T case so I won't need any adapters unless the bell housing bolts are different. I hate wiring (and don't know dick about newer engine sensors/tech) so your avenue of approach looks like a good alternative.
Sixgun 05-26-2002, 07:28 AM Hey Steve, you still got that proto bumper for me right?? I'll give ya a call.
TxCruzr 05-26-2002, 03:53 PM Hey Nolen, did you make that gauge cluster or is that one of the Manafre gauge bezels. What type gauges are you using, looks great. I'm in the process of redoing mine and need some info, plue trying to get a autometer speedometer to hookup to a 33 year old cruiser might be a PITA...
Thanks
Joseph A.
wngrog 05-26-2002, 04:14 PM I am not going to run a speedo....if it is important I have a GPS for that.
It is a MAF cluster running one 3 3/4 Autometer tach, 4 2 1/16 gauges.....Tranny temp, Engine temp, Volt, Oil pressure
Sixgun, you coming to Ft Hood?

of course this will mean very little wheelin time...:(
pitter 05-28-2002, 08:06 PM Whats the difference in HP and toque #'s with the TBI and LT-1, are they both the same swaps, and wiring, would the swap be harder with a Nv4500. looks like a sweet cruiser u got there. good luck on the swap.
wngrog 05-29-2002, 03:28 AM In 1995 the stock HP ratings for a TPI were in the neighborhood of 200hp and the LT-1 was about 275hp.
LT-1 has a much better fuel management system, improving wear and mileage.
