my cheezy electric fan switch with the sensor in the radiator sucks so I am getting a thread in thermostat, what temp should I get it for?
Electric Fan Relay; Fan-Thom II, 200° On/185° Off w/Thermostat $ 59.99
764-30103 Electric Fan Relay; Fan-Thom II, 185° On/170° Off w/Thermostat
oh yea, 88 Ford 5.0 EFI

Not sure of this applies to Fords, but I know if you use a thermostat lower than 195 degrees on a newer computerized Chevy, the computer thinks it's not warmed up yet and set the air-fuel mixture too rich and it'll never run quite right and use alot of gas. Not sure if that applies to Fords, especially one as old as '88. Something to check into though...

EDIT
Just realized you were talking about a thermostat for the fan... Either one would probably work fine, but you should probably choose the one that most closely approximates the range your engine operates in with it's existing thermostat.
Sorry about the dumb answer above--I should read more carefully.

Actually it is a good answer, considering I just bought a tstat for it and once again, I had a choice of temps, go figure..
I better find a manual :)
Factory spec is 212 degrees for the fan to come on. It is important to keep a minimum of 192 degrees coolant temp on your 5.0.
Why not use the original ECT sensor and PCM to turn the fan?

in english please :)
according to the diagram there is a wire for a fan, but it says for 4cyl so I assumed it was an extra wire in the 5.0 harness
Factory does not have an electric fan
I wonder if ford/ford motorsports makes/sells one - I'll have to check that out..
I guess I should have asked what car it originally came from. You are right , if the original car didn't have an electric fan, then there will be no provision to add one. The specs. I gave for temps apply to all '88 5.0L though.

I should say 88 california, it would be 89 anywhere else. I'll take another look at the wiring diagram but I have never seen a mustang with a stock electrical fan?
