So I take the Explorer out wheelin today with a buddy in his Mazda. I was leading and breakin trail cause his was a bigger piece of shit then mine when the day started. Well I start up this lil hill and I learn real quick that my fawkin vacuum piece of shit hubs dont like my new 31's. The drivers side one completely blew first, sending me into a dip with a couple feet of snow in it. Well we hook up the strap to afore mentioned Mazda and it doesnt budge the damn thing. In the process the passenger side hub partially lets go and is very erratic on when it decides to lock or not  I send the guy in the Mazda back to the house to grab the other truck and he rolls up in the 74
F-250 on 36's with a 460. Doesnt budge the Explorer. Well know the goddam thing is still up on the hill and I dont know what to do. What a day, man I love this sport :mad3: :flipoff2: :mad3:

Dig it out with a shovel? Its simple physics, your stuck, something is arresting your movement. Fix the problem, get moving. Mabye dig out a path for the tire and have that 250 pull on you. I have done that dozens of times pulling people of of ditches.

 in snow, im with these guys. the best bet is to shovel a path for the tires. If you still cant get out, THEN strap it up...or shovel more, your choice.

I hate being stuck in snow. It almost always leads to shoveling, and im a lazy ass.

Yea, it was too late last night so we are gonna go back after school today with a little more strap and another F-250 to see what we can do. We dug for a while last night but with no front hubs I just couldnt do anything.

BTW there is nothing vacuum about those hubs. They are purely mechanical.

Last saturday I got my truck stuck in the snow and it took 4.5 hours to get it out. In that 4.5 hours we had 4 other trucks stuck in the snow and 2 of them (including me) were on 38.5 Boggers and one of the others was on 39.5 Boggers. That sucked.

NO one said manual. They said mechanical.

I believe that explorers went from these right to the live axle setup. I dont think they ever had the PVH system.

Just replace the hubs with manuals. I actually have factory Ford manual hubs on my Explorer. It's a bare-bones XL and I love it. The only options it has that I'm aware of are A/C, roof rack, and rear wiper. It doesn't even have carpet--it's a rubber floor. I've been running 33s since September with no hub problems.

I'm really considering a SAS, though...

I had 35s on a explorer with only 4" lift. You need lift. Or a different vehicle.

Ironicly the one M5OD-R1 explorer I see runnin' around here locally is an otherwise fully loaded EB 4dr.

Lift isn't really the problem for 35s, you have to use different radius arms so they don't rub.
