FXR UPR 03-08-2007, 10:00 AM Would an aftermarket, fabricated frame built to toyota specs ever be considered legal? Looking for input to see if it is viable. It would help the people in areas where ther is alot of rust and good toyota frames are hard to come by.
desertoy 03-08-2007, 11:12 AM You are right, it is a good idea. Submit your drawings to th Board of Directors and we will look at it.
FXR UPR 03-08-2007, 12:56 PM working out details right now.
mtbrjon 03-09-2007, 06:00 AM Good idea.
Renaud33 03-16-2007, 08:02 AM Another option would be to contact Budbuilt. I know at one time he was planning on producting frames. Here's the link.

FXR UPR 03-17-2007, 10:26 AM Their website has been the same under "frames" for a long time. They are not built to toyota spec as well. 2X4 isnt the same dimensions as a factory frame.
Brian Ellinger 03-18-2007, 06:38 PM This would also be cool to prevent lots of weld/grind to get undercut welds filled in, and all the bracket/crossmember removal.

we should talk to him about it. as long as he could get width to be the same..i am sure the height could be a little off. cuz the frame varies within an inch from front to back. it would really hard to expect somone to replicate it exactly.

Im thinking a couple sizes of 2x tubing. Make the bottom side replicate a SA frame, and if its a bit shorter up top, whoopideedoo. But then the axle clearances, and ground clearances would all be the same.
whoopideedoo. .
FXR UPR 03-22-2007, 02:38 PM My frames will be the same dimensions as a stock frame. (H) 4 3/4"x (W) 2 1/4" is what my 85 runner frames measures. The front frame rails will be kicked up like SFA frames. The IFS frames dont kick up in the front so they suck ass for axle clearence.

I would have been all over this if we could use a new frame on our ftoy.
FXR UPR 03-22-2007, 05:58 PM Would have saves you alot of work on your frame thats for sure. I have been wanting to build these for a long time and now its slowly happening.
ya i got about 100 hours into my frame by the time i torched off everything, grinded it down, welded up all the holes, the grinded them down. then flapped everything:shaking:

Shoulds left more holes. Weld add weight you know! :p
We're only filling the top of the front ~3', and the full length of side holes. Leaving all the rectangle ones for references. Ones on the inside forget it. And bottom, those are drains!

would this be something that air bag and dtoy could do when building the frame.
i'd think that with his super duper computer bender thingy air bag could get somethin goin. then it would just be a matter of tackin the formula frame onto the "toyota" frame. end user could break the tacks and set the desired height from the "toyota" frame with new extensions if desired.
sure price would go up...but for the hassel it seems like people go through to weld up the frames and findin a straight frame (not necessarily west coast)...seems like it might be beneficial.

I've got an 84 toyota 4 runner frame. It's in perfect shape. It's for sale.! I can bring it to Moab.
send me a pvt.
FXR UPR 03-23-2007, 06:50 AM For those people who are trying to sell stock frames, please get your own thread or put it in the forsale section. This isnt the place for it.
