Have search and come up with nothing yet. Anyone have a good lead to a diagram for the gm 10 bolt front axle. I broke a shaft that I need to replace, so might as well do everything at one time while it is down (bearings, seals, u-joints, etc...). First time on a chevy front axle. Thanks fellers.

2 take out screw that releases the gear+spring
3 take off the snap ring
4 pry out the lock ring on the inside of the hub assembly
5 pull out final hub peice
6pull off brake caliper
7 pull off brake disk/hub
8 remove axel shaft

what about remove spindle? and there are a few beers that are supposed to be thrown in there. :p

It's really not that complicated. Just keep track of how everything came apart, clean everything, repack the bearings thoroughly, pack some more grease in thte hub, reassemble everything the way it came off, reset the bearings, and you should be good.

A couple tips I can give you:
-The spindle can sometimes be kind of a PITA if its rusted into the knuckle. usually a few good whacks with a soft faced hammer will get it free.
-When you reassemble the stubshaft, make sure you install everything just as it came appart. The thrust washer should be installed with the chamfer toward the axle, not the hub. I also pack both sides of the washer and the V-seal area with plenty of grease so it squeezes out and lubes the seal.
-The small lip seal that fits inside the spindle should be installed with the lip TOWARD THE AXLE, not the spindle. I've seen people do it the other way, but this seal is a backup to the V-seal, and is supposed to keep water out, and my Spicer axle manual says to install it that way. I assume the 10-bolt is the same, since the outer parts are all about the same as the D44.
-Make sure you pack plenty of grease inside the spindle/around the stub shaft because this is all that lubes the little needle bearing that supports the stub. These things seem to go dry and disintegrate in a hurry, so get as much grease to them as possible.
-You need to check/repack the wheel bearings every so often as part of normal service, and you will have to do it much more often if you drive in deep water. Don't get lazy and not pull the spindle when you do this because, like I said, that little needle bearing goes dry in a hurry and needs to be relubed. If it gets water in it, it'll go faster, and the seals will wear out if run dry. All of this will make sense after you get it apart.

Yeah, I was waiting for it too. I'm generally pretty easy going, but many people on here are not quite so patient. This info is pretty easy to find.

I sure would like to thank y'all for all your info. Yeah I was a bit lazy on the search (first round is on me,:beer: ), but I do not get to spend too much time on the computer anyways. Thanks again for the leads and awesome tips.
