I have a 92 toyota V6 which had the clutch replaced about 30,000 miles ago. Recently the clutch pops out of 1st gear when little or no pressure is on the clutch plate. For instance when Idling at low speeds the clutch won't stay engaged.
Also when accelerating from a stop, if the clutch isn't released just right the truck will violently kick out of gear.

The transmission is popping out of first gear or is the clutch slipping???

The clutch doesn't slip. The transmission (shift lever) pops out when little or no pressure (gas pedal) is being supplied. This only happens is first.

Common problem, it will pop out of first, third and fifth eventually. Time for a rebuild or a new trans.

Talked to an experienced and trusted mechanic who said it is not the transmission. The problem is most likely the "shift shaft seal" which is a relatively cheap fix.

It is worth a try.
