: School me on a 9.5" third member!!
GWBronco 03-09-2007, 10:39 AM This goes out to the masses for answers. I have a third member that is aparently called a 9.5". I thought is was a nodular due to the ribs and 3.25" bearings. I guess my questions are these:
1. Will a 35 spline spool and 9" ring gear fit in this third member?
2. Does anybody make more gears for this 3rd member, if #1 is "no"?
3. If #1 & #2 are "no" does anybody want to buy it that can use it? :D
Thanks for any help on this.

mustange70 03-09-2007, 08:30 PM I know that its from a lincoln, and i never knew them to be nodular. center section, buts that about all i know.
wyldstallyn73 03-09-2007, 08:38 PM I have one from a late 70's 4x4 (also seen another one at a swap meet) both were 3.50 ratio, 31 spline and have a ford factory limited slip (track-lock??) Fits in a normal 9 inch housing with a slight notch with a grinder. No help, I know, but thats all I got for info.
GWBronco 03-10-2007, 08:21 AM Thanks guys. I also called Currie and they said there was nothing you could do with it, unless it had the ger ratio you were looking for. I guess it will be something else to sit on the self.
The ID of the ring gear is larger than a normal 9 inch ring gear. Ask me how I know. years ago a guy sold me atrac loc at a swap meet and I later found out it would not fit the normal 9 inch gears. I never knew such a thing was even out there.
el ranger loco 03-10-2007, 11:50 PM Its a dana 53 [IIRC]. They came in lincoln cars and FS jeeps in the late 60s/early 70s. A 9" third is supposed to fit the housing, if that helps. Also Im told that somebody [yukon??] is making a set of like 4.10s or something for it. Good luck!
Fordman500 03-11-2007, 12:48 AM Isnt it 9 3/8?
GWBronco 03-11-2007, 09:20 AM Yes it is called 9 3/8, but alot of people call them 9 1/2. Yeah I do not have the housing just the third member. I was hoping that you could change the carrier for a 35 spline spool from a 9" and use 9" gears, because it has 3.25" bearings.
WebsterRedneck 03-12-2007, 09:20 AM Yeah, they came in fullsize fords, lincolns, and some trucks.
Most all of the cars got 2.75's or 3.0's, most trucks got 3.5's. They're all 31 spline axles and no parts interchange with a 9".
What ratio does it happen to have? I'm looking for a set of 3.23's or 3.5's for one. . .

blownblue 03-12-2007, 09:47 AM I amagin you can't but might be worth checking with Mark Williams Enterprises... (markwilliams.com) I know they have the 9 1/2's for their pro mod rearends but the gears are not cheap. I would think would be cheaper to just buy another 9" as they are so very cheap to come by.

Webster,i will check the gear tonight.
GWBronco 03-13-2007, 06:36 AM Webser,
The gears are 2.8, at least that is what the calculator said. I counted the teeth as it was getting dark.
WebsterRedneck 03-14-2007, 12:08 PM Oh well. I already have 3.0's in my 67 T-bird, it could really use some more gear.
I'm probably just going to get a 3.5 9" section and toss it in, call it good enough.
