i've looked on poison spyder customs and they don't make drop downs for YJ's, so right now i am prolly gonna have to drive to charlotte to a custom shop and see if they will make one, unless someone knows of another company selling the drop down bumpers like the ones from PSC. I've also seen ones that swing sideways and then drop down, anyone know of a company selling those yet. Thanks.

Build one. Not that hard. I am using leaf spring bushings for mine to swing down on.

Petersen's magazine advertised a drop down bumper for Jeeps (CJ, TJ, and YJ I think) a couple of months ago. It was in their new products section, and was a really cool design. I cant find it by searching the net, and im on the road now, but I know the company was in San Antonio, Texas. I was in the market for one at the time, so I called them. They cost about a grand and come uncoated. I'll get the link and post it up when I get home monday or tuesday night...

give outback offroad a call 210-509-4921. i cant find a website for them. but they are the ones that make the fold-down or swing-out tire carrier. It looks nice. It is in the Petersen's 4Wheel & off-road March 07 mag.

Guys don't think that'll be awfull heavy with a tire on it? Not sure I'd want to drop it, and even worse........lift it back up everytime I want into the back.

I just got rid of my swing out carrier and will soon be building a drop down just because of the weight. It'll be alot easier to just flip the carrier up and slid a pin in place then it was hoisting a 37 on a steel rim 4+ feet up in the air and trying to line up lugs. Think of the drop down mount like a lever instead of having to squat and lift the spare. Hell, I'm even thinking of an adjustable leg for the top of it so when its down it'll be a small table in camp. Dunno about that one tho, have to see how it turns out before I decide anything.
Here is my setup just for some ideas. I used spring bushings also, but I am using bolts instead of pins for the top mounts. The pins were making too much noise, so I opted to take a little longer getting into the back when the tire carrier is on. Making it yourself gives you the option to hang other things off of it like your hi lift.

Local guy here made his own for his YJ:

When I get the dime I'll be having him make me one.
Cave...that's going to be a bish to lift with your lever arm between the load and the pivot. I'd do it like a stinger so the handle/stinger hoop is above the tire...lever arm is further from the pivot than the center of mass. A 40" tire doesn't feel so heavy when it's like that.
Well, all I do is crall the malls in my 36s and my spare is on an aluminum rim so it's pretty light. Its actually not too bad and I think the stingers look retarded. I had it built like a stinger first, but I hated how it looked and it stuck out too far. Good luck with yours, you'll like the stability of this style verse the swing out.

I talked to the guys at Outback and it seems like a cool design but they want over a grand for it!
