I have decided to tap my ram and thread in a heim joint for my new steering.
The ram is 1" diameter, so should I tap it for a 3/4" heim joint, or is that cutting it too close? Will 1/8" radius of the ram left be too weak? If so, should I go 5/8" or will that heim joint be too weak?

Help me out here.

why not use a female heim? that way your shaft stays as large as possible?
