2nd this setup is a duel setup propane/Gas are they anygood and how does it accomedate the difrence in engine timing

3rd How is the throttle response on propane

the only reason for the dual fuel setup is to warm the engine and propane system at startup in really cold weather. I can't remember the exact temp but something like 40 below propane dosn't vaporize anymore. so you can get carb freeze with a pure propane system in the winters up here.
only reason I can see to keep it in a normal climate (ever wheel at 20 below? I don't reccomend it) is if you run out of propane on the trail you could limp it home on gas.
oh yeah the system dosn't compensate for the gas running, its not meant to be under a load on gas so it dosn't matter if the timing is a bit high.

Caddy 472 on straight propane. 10.5:1 compression, Edelbrock intake, small Lunati cam. Strong engine. Lots of response. Not very good fuel economy, though.

The problem with dual fuel is 2-fold: compression and timing. Propane can work on lower compression, though, but you lose HP and economy. But it needs a different advance curve, and there is no "happy medium". Electronics help 'cause you can quickly change the advance curve, but not if you're running (e.g.) an HEI distributor.

My dads got a dual fuel system on his 79 f-250, 429ci. We ran the dual fuel because theres only so many places to fill up the LP.. it runs fine on LP or gas.. just flip the switch on the dash and keep going.

I really dont know much about it other than that 429 pulls like a motherfawker. I know that the truck weighs 7200#'s dry  and last time we were at the gravel lot we came out at 27k#'s no problem.:D

feel free to email me for his address or phone #'s.

I did the following:
- bought an engine with the complete set-up (not that this matters, I bought another complete system off another running engine, it's just the cheapest way to get the stuff)
- went and talked to 1 or 2 places that do installations and inspections, to find out everything I needed to know (things like heat shields, type of fuel line, etc.)
- did the install myself (pretty straightforward)
- took it back to the shop I liked who was okay with inspecting an install that they didn't perform but was done following their guidelines
- the shop also set up the engine to get the timing and mixture correct

I carry a 20 pounder for a jerry can. You just need to get a line to attach it to the filler on the main propane tanks. It cost me something like $40. Had to use it once. The fuel gauge certainly can't be called accurate. :(

During the summer you're ok, cause everyone is selling LPG for the RV crowd. Winter is a little harder. Depends on what range you have. I'd not use propane on a truck I regularly drove a distance, but for a ranch/work/trail truck, it'd be cool.

hmm ok that cool

I dought i'll be doing much winter driving down ther anyway

but I was thinking if the $hit hits the fan I could have a spare dizzy with the gas curve and have a small gastank with an eletric pump with a spare carb

cant find propane yank out the propane dizzy pop in the gas one. throw in the gas carb hook everything up some tuning then race ready take a 1 1/2 haour with a budie
