I have gotten a lot of good advice, hoping for more. I searched but looks like everyone talks about TJ/YJ. I am in the process of putting 60's front and rear in the XJ. The front is being moved up about an inch, maybe two. The rear is causing my concern because of the rear doors. I would like to keep it looking as stock as possible so without cutting into the doors that leaves me to moving the rear axle as far back as possible to fit the rubber. One problem, the gas tank. So just cut a whole in the floor and raise it up? Any other ideas? If I move it up, what have people done to the inside of the cargo area to hide the tank of just left it in plain site? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone move or modify their gas tank location in an xj?

move it to the rear cargo are, extend the filler hose out of the side or to the window and just roll down the window to fill up.

or you could buy a fuel cell? Or, there was a guy here that comp cut his XJ, so you could do that and only get away with a couple inches toward the rear.

Wow, that is nice work. I assume you have the filler going to the stock location?
Odd question, but I assume that it is DOT legal going that route correct?

You have to move the filler up as much as you move the tank. My gas cap is almost at the bottom of the window.
I have no idea if its "Legal". The filler neck is factory and unaltered (other than its welded into the inner fender).
