ok is ther any benifit to a rear shackle flip on a ranger ?
i say no that it will not flex any better pointing up than it will down .

others seem to think it will flex better up than down

stock it points down and they are flipin them to go up .
did any that make sense

Thought about it, and cant see why it would make any difference.

question 1: are they useing a spring with more arch or blocking the rear axle for ride height.

It's a setup a lot of desert race Ford Rangers set themselves up when using leaf springs.

From the factory, the shackles hang down from bracket mounted outboard of the frame.

When they perform the flip, the bracket and shackle do a 180* turn. With a stock Ranger shackle, it drops the ride height by 2".

So this allows the racers to get a 2" lift but utilize 4" lift springs.

I did this on my Ranger pre-runner when I had it and I noticed that it had better handling characteristics (not a big deal on a rock rig, but on a pre-runner it is), droop travel increased, and the overall ride was better.

I agree with cory, much nicer ride, especially with longer shackles, but the longer the shackle, the lower the ride height. it only really makes sense to do it with a custom leaf pack.

Baja guys want this setup. More arch plus a longer shackle means lots of compression travel.

If you're not a baja guy and want flex, you want a flatter spring... since most of your flex will come from droop, and arched springs don't have much of that.
