This is a question that has been on my mind for a while, how does a heim joint compair on strength vs a stock FJ40 or 60 tierod end ? I believe that a lot of people have gone to all heim joint front ends and I wonder what the advantage is?

There was a pretty good discussion a few weeks ago about this on the General Board. Read it. (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44539&highlight=Heim+Joints)
I agree with the comments that spherical rod ends (aka (Heims) can be a strong as a tie rod end, but you typically only see those in race cars. More importantly, the way most off-roaders mount them in single shear, they are definitley not as strong as a tie rod. On a trailer queen, I don't think it is a big deal, but I would not use Heim joints for steering on the highway, especially if not mounted in double shear. As always, just my opinion:clown:

Thank's for the ponter! It made my mind up, stick with TRE's for longevity and dependability!
Thanks again,
