(http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44539&highlight=Heim+Joints) I agree with the comments that spherical rod ends (aka (Heims) can be a strong as a tie rod end, but you typically only see those in race cars. More importantly, the way most off-roaders mount them in single shear, they are definitley not as strong as a tie rod. On a trailer queen, I don't think it is a big deal, but I would not use Heim joints for steering on the highway, especially if not mounted in double shear.
