i dont know the exact years. but somewhere around 72 they got the body style with the single crease down the sides and then it turned down at the front fender with the vertical yellow light. then somewhere around 82 or so they changed to just one body line crease that went from tailgate 2 the front with no turn. what were the differences in these generations? other than the motor and body changes, can someone tell me what other changes there were? or a link that i can read up please. thanks

somewhere around 78-82 they phased in the 10b front to replace the D44. the 12b rear was also phased out in favor of the 10b around the same year. in 87 they went to FI. somewhere i think around ~82 they went to the 700r4 from the th350 with the autos. and i believe 87 might also be the last year for the sm465 in the k10. i think they switched to the np208 with the 700r4, instead of the 205 with the th350. 87 was the last year for the solid axle in the k10, or v1500 as it was now known.
it might help to narrow down your questions, if you want any specific answer.

well im looking to buy the mid 70s-mid 80s and i guess i was wondering what was the standard running gear for each modle is. now that you mention 10bolts and dana 44s im getting that they didnt run 60/14 bolts in the k10s. what modles ran the 60/14bolt, 350 or bigger, and sm465

only k30's ran 60/14s. all can be had with a 465, and for a factory engine you might need at least a 3/4t (k20) to get bigger than a 350 (in a gas engine) but dont quote me on that. with that said, all of these trucks are 20-30 years old, they may have engines other than stock in them.
for the sake of this argument, a 10 bolt front and a d44 are equivalent.
a k10 would have a 10b/d44 front and a 12b/10 rear. some latter ones may have a 6 lug 14sf rear.
k20s with have an 8 lug 10b/d44 front and either a 14ff or an 8 lug 14sf. most years would have the 14ff. again, the 14sf was introduced in the early 80's and would most likely be found in a light duty 3/4t.
k30's will have a 60 front, and a 14ff rear. they come in the single rear wheel and the dual rear wheel variety. some k30's may have a d70, which for the sake of the argument are equivalent to a 14ff.
the 60/14 combo is a "one ton" set. that means they only came in "one tons". in chevy speak, 10 means 1/2 ton, 20 means 3/4 ton, and 30 mean 1 ton. also, C means 2wd and K means 4wd.

try looking there for info. that is blazers, but it basically applies to k10s as well. silverado, scottsdale, custom deluxe, etc...are all just differences in the bells and whistles. one might have ac, one might have power windows, that sort of thing.
