Got a 98 Tahoe, 2 door sport. Friends tell me to install a locker in the back, but a couple of Mechanic's I speak with tell me to go Posi. any suggestions?
Its my daily driver, but I do go out on the trails several times a year.

Locker.

Wether you install a posi or a locker, its the same labour & bearings. (not going to suggest a lunchbox in a fullsize 10b). And you don't have a very stout rear end when you are done.

IMO, start with a 14bSF axle. This would be strong enough to take a Lockright if that's all your budget allows. Otherwise a Detroit.

the thing with a LS is this, they fail when you need them the most. but if you must, at least go for something like a detroit trutrac. they are a helical gear mesh instead of clutches. they wont wear away to nothing like clutches will.

One buddy switched from a ltd-slip to a new T-2 Torsen in an 8.8" Ford under a BII. It was not the improvement he had hoped. AFAIK, both the truetrac and Torsens are torque-bias units of similar design.
