so i have a kingpin 60 i posted this a month ago or so but got nothing useful.
The problem is that after a full rebuild it acts funny with the hubs locked. When they are locked i cannot turn left and if i turn right i cannot even turn back straight. If i am turned the drivers side hub will not lock. I have taken it to a shop and they are clueless so i am back to square one. any ideas?

U-joints. Sounds like one or both are binding.
Witht he hubs lock down, you may be giving just enough stress to bind 'em. Got a locker?

yeah the front end is locked but why would the ujoints be binding. i mean i can turn 5 degrees to the right and not be able to turn straight again.

You took it to a shop and they were clueless? Did they take anything apart? Who rebuilt the axle originally? Did you follow any of the suggestions you got the last time you posted this?

Like I said (agreed to ) before, YOU are fawking stupid. Now to your answer. Pull the shafts out. Hold the axle assy. verticle by the stub, now lightly swing the assy. in a circle. Is the ujoint 100% smooth and free? Ie no binding, and smooth transition from one extreme angle to the other (replicating lock to lock steering.)? If so, good job. Now to find the real problem. Pull the welded carrier, or lockright as you seem to think it is. Put in an open carrier and re assemble your axle. Now does it still have the same problem? I'd be willing to bet it does not. Don't go calling names, just try it. If that truely doesn't fix it you are welcome to call me anything you'd like. I have seen the same problem before and it was the welded carrier. If it doesn't happen in 2wd, and it does in 4wd or with the hubs locked, then I say carrier.

For god sakes just put the front end up on some jackstands and fidget with the thing- turn the wheels, steer, turn the wheels some more, etc, etc. Then try it without the welded carrier like Aggro said. You'll be able to "feel" what it's doing like this. I just can't believe you have had a month and haven't figured it out. Shit I can't sleep at night if there is a problem with my rig that I haven't figured out the cause of.

well i have more than one vehicle and a lot of shit on my plate right now.

aggro don't ever post on any of my threads again you are a moron who suffers from constapation of the brain and diarrhea of the mouth. I tested the axles before i intalled them and yes they are smooth

old jeep i tried a few things from the last post but nothing worked i thought i would put up another post to see if anyone else had any more ideas without all the dribble and trash talk of the last thread

Have you done anything funky with the brake brackets or spindles etc... it sounds like the axle u-joint is not aligned with the steering kingpin inclination
Any brand swapping?? ie: 35 spline spindles on Ford hubs....?
if the u-joint is not exactly in line with the kingpin inclination then you will get binding as when you turn the axle tried to move side to side...and the torrington bearing in the spindle won't let it..
Did you bolt the brake brackets on behind your spindles or on top of the spindles?...

cro that is a good idea i haven't changed any parts around but i will check to see if the kingpin and the ujoint share the same axis
