I know this is a dumb question but the local part store dosn't have a rotor in stock for me to measure but I need to know the outside diameter of a CJ7 rotor. I figure it's between 11 1/2" and 12" but i'd like to know which.... thanx

if you are wondering what i'm doing... i'm tryin to make my own rear disc conversion on a 9" with out payin somebody else for the brakets.... thanx...

Not sure of the diameter but it is less that 12"

Why not use F150 4wd front rotors? They will have a larger hat area pushing the rotor farther away from the wheel.

They are 11 I think and are .950 thick. Any Ford 1/2 ton rotor works good for rear disk since you are most likely going to use 1/2 ton Chevy calipers.

First, early or late CJ7 Rotors?

If the later stlye I'm guessing your using around 1990 Lincoln rear disk brakes. At least this is what I'm doing, they need a 15/16 rotor to work and have a very easy mounting.

well actually i got a rear axle out of a 79 Lincoln Mark V and trying to use it.... and the rotor "hat" is to be machined out and the rotor redrilled to fit the lug pattern so i was looking for a different rotor that would work.... and it dosn't matter early or late the measurements for both would be nice..... and what are you doing for you discs using 90 lincolon equipment.... they didn't have a 9" as far as i knew ... they are 8.8" .... so will the plate off those 8.8" work on a 9" i was thinking they might but I havn't measure to check....

The flange of a 9" axle is 7" or at least my stock 9" out of a 78 Bronco.... will the rotor off a CJ7 fit over that flange... or what rotor would??????? I know one of those aftermarket kits use CJ7 rotors but I question them sliding over that flange... my front axles would only slide over a 6 1/2" flange... I was thinking about grinding down the axle flange some but i'd rather find a rotor any suggestions?

I think that if you could find mounting brackets for disc breaks off of an 8.8 that they would work on a 9". When i swaped in a 9" for the 8.8 i had, i mixed and matched the 8.8/9" break parts....they are the same....

I've done some research on this topic. Here's what you will need: A CJ rotor from an 82 is 11.75" diameter, and .81" thick. A rotor from a 77 CJ is 11.75" diameter and 1.25" thick. If you run the 82 rotor, you will need an 82 Eldorado (metric) caliper that fits the .81 width. If you run the 1.25" caliper, you need a 77 Eldorado caliper (that's if you are running a parking brake caliper). You will notice that the calipers and rotors are from the same years. You need to remember the 82 and 77 #s. Sure, others years will work, but the 82 and 77 happen to be the same for CJ and Eldo, if that helps. You can find the weld on caliper brackets from A&A MFG for like $12. The 82 stuff, I've found is cheaper, so that's what I plan to go with on my SF D60.

hey dangerranger....if what willisXJ says about the brackets only being like $12/piece then i would go for that....sounds alot cheaper and less headache then trying to make them yourself.

To the point i'm at right now its not the problem with the brackets but I would like info for future referance... my biggest question is the Rotor and clearance.

where is A&A Mfg? can I get a website or something.... never heard of them... but I measured some CJ7 rotors and they are 6 1/2" on the inside of the rotor.... my axle flange is 7" How much can you have a rotor milled out? and how much can you have your flange milled down.. I think I can mill my flange down 1/4" all the way around that would give me enough room.

The other thoughts I have are using the Front F150 Rotors... I have an extra pair which is a bonus but on top of that they have the same inside dimensions as the CJ of 6 1/2" now what I don't know are if one is off set more than the other or the thickness is differance. From what WILLYXJ said i can measure to compair...

A&A MFG (http://www.aa-mfg.com)

These run about $12-14 a pair, not worth the time and $ fabbing. Can't remember the PN now for those, but if you call them, I'm sure they'd be helpfull. I know the caliper brackets are different for the metric and standard calipers.

I have the hat mounting depth of each of these rotors at work, but we're closed Mon.

I have found race shops to be a huge outlet for off road stuff. I've found the same stuff for 1/8 the cost at these places, then at 4wd specialty shops. I have an extensive collection of race cataloges that I flip through very often. If you're really getting into this, I'd do the same, you'd be amazed at what you find, and the ideas that you can put to use.
