My sami's actualy taking shape now that I've had time to work on it I've got pics if any one interested in seeing it. I'm not very good at this computer thing so if someone wants me to email and fix them up for me I could try doing that.

87 sami custom frame and partial tube body, shaved toy axles, lockers 5.29's, 1.6l sidekick auto tranny lowered stall torque converter kick tcase ott adapter to toy case, coil front suspension rear 1/4 eliptical, hydraulic steering not mounted yet and a lot of temporarly tacked up parts ect ect not done yet but getting there.
:smokin:
oh yeah stretched wheel base to 98"

Some interesting stuff you got going on there.....

What did you do with your Sidekick automatic to drop the stall ratio?

Pook

theres quite a bit of stuff still temporary so overlook the shitty front spring mount and rear upper link mounts ect. Just waiting till its fully built so I can set the ride height and pinion angles properly.....Angle iron on the belly shot is temp to. Its going to be totaly flat.

I could take some flex shots but wouldn't be accurate flex due to not having my rear shackles in. But in close as case be mocked up useing clamps and stuff its crazy yet very stable...:D theres hardly any weight up high especialy when the spares not on. But I have to run a spare around here cuz on some of the trails we've got your far far away from civilization.

Someday, I too will begin project "lost identity" on my Zuk.

Nice rig!

One question, tho - in that last picture, what's up with the 2nd piece of tubing tacked to the lower control arm?

thats the front sorta radius arm on the passenger side the other side is just a straight link so it acts like a ford radius arm setup with one side wristed. Didn't use c bushings so it actually flexes better.

Looks nice. What's your reasoning behind lowering the stall ratio? I have been talking with some people down here and most say don't do it, otherwise when you put it it low/low and then drive it can take off unexpectedly.

Hey AZ,
Lowering the stall converter is helpful for better compression breaking with an auto especially if you don't have the gears, therefore relying on the torque converter for reduction. If you have "too much gearing" (not like that is possible :flipoff2: ) the tranny will grab at a low rpm and with the good gearing may overcome your brakes (or if you don't have them on will idle along like a manual with the clutch out.

I think that is what you were asking.

Pook,
That's a nice sticker on the window... :flipoff2:

The sidekicks stall converter is set really high from factory I think they said it was around 2800. I believe the shop set the new one at around 1800. I'm friends with people who work there so I'm working out a small sponsership with them so in other words I got a really good deal. If its to much or not enough we're going to keep trying new setups till we get it right on. As far as I know no one has really done to much work on these trannies so I'm sure they'll be some issues to work out.

NO LIMIT that was on it from several owners ago... :flipoff2:
..and will be coming off ...

Thats also what neutral is for. use the ebrake and shift it.

I used some rear dodge springs my buddy had sitting in his shop.
Any long spring with thin leafs will work. When I was thinking about doing this setup I asked Snortclown (S&NFAB) about what springs he thought I should use he suggested the chevy's instead of the usual Ford springs everyone uses. He said the fords would probably be to stiff. I really suggest using the ford radius arm bushings and spring eye bushings in your link setup I'm very happy with them and will never run hiems for links again (all though I haven't wheeled them yet I can't see any problems with them)

Good thing, not that we need another forum to diss NL but I don't like seeing credit go to where it isn't deserved. You, Fullwidth and I will have to get together once my beast is ready for the trail. I know of a few nice (not too commonly known) lines that will make you work it.

Dave I'll being looking for trails to actually work it. I'm still a little ways away from actually having it running and driving hopefully in the next month or so.

Are you running radius arm bushings at the axle for the top Y link? I tried that on my toy and I ran through bushings like mad. They only held up like everything 3 trips or so. I swapped to a big arse heim joint instead. Maybe you'll have better luck.

Yeah it is. I've heard of them wearing out but it seems to be ok. They're some really really no flex extra extra hard urethane bushings and theres no bindage at that point when flexing the truck with the forklift, all the links work together. I've got several sets and its a trail only rig so if I got to change them every few trips thats fine by me.

TheNerple
06-05-2002, 07:43 PM
Hey
It shouldn't bind when flexing, the problem comes from getting on it and having the pinion want to move. It is the in and out pressure of the pinion wanting to wrap that squeezes the bushings together. I went with rubber bushings to start with and they didn't last one weekend of wheeling. Urethane seemed to do better but they crack and such. Mine is only a trail rig too, just see how it goes and if you get sick of changing it you can switch to something else.
