Anyone shot one? Own one?

Looked at one this weekend in 9mm, and I really liked the feel and balance of the gun. Been waiting for them to get an XD in so I can see what all the hype is about. I have it pretty much narrowed down to one or the otherr, but after feeling the Smith in my hand, I am really thinking it's got the edge, without even looking at the XD.

I have heard nothing but good things about the M&P. I'm not a fan of the XD myself, but the M&P feels really nice in my hand.

Here's G&A's review....Wesson M&P (http://www.gunsandammomag.com/ga_handguns/swmp15_022207/)

I think it would make a great backup gun...or a carry gun for guys with normal/small hands.:flipoff2:

I saw that article, but that's for the compact model. I looked at the "fullsize" one. Much better for those of us with bigger mitts. It's got that interchangeable palm swell too.

I like the idea of a steel/polymer frame as well. Just an all around solid feeling gun.

Every polymer framed pistol I can think of has steel inserts in the frame.

You shoot the hand cannon yet Ken? ;)

Nope, only fondling up to this point. ;)

I think I'm goingto be ready to go the weekend of 3/31. I suppose we should start coordinating now, so everyone can get a kitchen pass.

I like the M&Ps. I'm a bit partial though since my brother works for S&W.

We bought my Dad the .460 for Christmas. I fired 2 rounds and I thought my sinuses were going to bust from the shockwave. :D

Baahahahaa, I just got the 460V a couple weeks ago. Haven't shot it yet, but I did buy a box of 460, and 454 Casull. I gotta say, that 460 is impressive to say the least. I'm going to owrk up to it, I've got some hot 45 Colt loads, I'll start with those, then the 454 and finally the 460. I bought the Hornady 200 grain rounds. Should be good for about 2100 fps out of the shorter 460V. That's still insane.

BTW, I have to work 1-31 but I could go 4-1.

That looks like a nice piece but it's listed at 600+ for a sub compact? That's in Glock or XD territory for sure.. unless they listed MSRP or something. How much can you get it for?

I picked up the non compact model for $479. I'll be picking it up 3/30, so as soon as I take it out and run some rounds thru, I'll report back here.

Ah, that's not a bad price at all if the subcompact runs around there.

My wife has the m&p in 9mm. Its a nice gun, feels good, shoots good. Its every bit as good as an xd, mag's are a little pricey.
My wife was pretty set on getting an xd, got the oppertunity to shoot the m&p. She put a box through it, and decided that was the gun she wanted.

I like my xd better, but the m&p is nice. They are both more ergonomic than the block.

Good to know the comparison there for sure!!

What caliber is your XD?? I'm thinking real hard about one in 45. I like the full size 5" barrel model, but a 4" would not be out of the question. What is yours?

Maybe I should make a seperate XD post?

Or you could search XD 45 (if it's working)

FYI, if you have a Bass Pro nearby, they are having a firearms sale and an 4" BBL XD 45 w/13 rd mags is priced at $499.99. Bass Pro also has a policy that they will price match a LOCAL gun dealer if that gun is in stock at that dealer during the time of purchase from BP.

*$&$^#%#*$$*

Supposed to be opening in Reno in the near future. Vegas is the closest one, but that's a good 8-10 hour drive. Ahh, but the entertainment once you arrive.........

There's not a whole ton of recoil/kick (whatever it's called on a pistol) actually and it's not all that loud. Just a "thud" shockwave that almost punches you in the face. Like when a bomb goes off, though I dunno how many of you have experienced that. (I build bombs for a living... so some of the training we do is make them go off)

Pic is a piece of "AR" (I think) steel. It's the stuff used as armor on some Humvees. If the plate was in a holder, I think it would have went threw. We had just tossed it on a pile of gravel.

Uhm, yeah. That's quite impressive. I guess I need to find a manhole cover or two for target practice. LOL

Planning on heading out next weekend to run some rounds thru it. Figured I'd do a new post for JUST the 460.

The gun is very comparable to my Dan Wesson 44 magnum. The frames are almost identical in size, weight and feel. I have always loved that gun, it's been super accurate and reliable since day one, even with hot loads. If the Smith is even close, I'll be a happy camper.

I'm assuming you're Air Force? Based on your location and job description. Ex-AF here, did my 8 years and got out. Would have had 20 this year if I had stayed in, but no regrets. I do miss the commradery though.

I understand you were probably kidding, but MH covers are Cast, and they shatter pretty easily, (ask me how I know)

So just in case you were thinking of shooting one, I just wanted you to know that pieces might fly, and you will only get one shot after draggin the MH cover around.

Kendo

Yeah, just kidding, no way I wanna drag one of those heavy bastids around just to shoot one big fawkin hole in it.

I may take some 1/2" plate steel I have though, just to see what it'll do. I have some smaller pieces, so portability is manageable.

I shot a mh cover many years ago with a 12 gauge slug, actually a couple of slugs. The first did not pentrate, but knocked a big chunk off the back. The second punched thru and left a 2" hole. The last one left a 6" hole. It was fun, but rather silly now that I look back on it.

So I actually held the Smith M+P in the subcompact 9mm variety today. It was at a pawn shop for 569 and looked new. I liked the feel of it better than the subcompact Glock 26, and better than the XD9 subcompact. Obviously I didn't shoot it but feel is VERY important to me for a concealed carry piece! The price is a bit much for me to handle, otherwise I'd seriously consider it.

I think the key to the Smith is the interchangeable palm swell. No matter what size your hands are, they have something that will accomodate.

$569 is crazy for a pawn shop. Those guys are thieves!! Do you have a Sportsman's Warehouse or BassPro near you? They'd beat that price, I'm almost sure.
