: SOA and tire options

I recently finished my SOA, SR, flipped the front springs and 55 rear springs. It turned out to be about as tall as 4" lift springs maybe even slightly less. I was planning on running 35's but I saw a set of 38x14.5" gumbo mudders on 6 lug wheels for $350. I'm not afraid to do some cutting, would prefer to not hack up the front fenders though (don't like them flat).

Will the 38s fit ok? with some longer bumpstops?

What's the thought on gumbo mudders?

Gearing isn't an issue, I'm going to be about 100:1 (T18/D18 w/ tera low gears/4.88s), behind a fuel injected 302.

Aren't those Bias Ply? I think if I recall those are stiffer than Swampers. There are a couple of guys in Mtn. Home who run those on Huge Pickups. I'm thinking of doing the 55 spring thing and SOA on ours too. I can't wait to see how yours turned out. Are you selling your old tires? I'm currently tireless. It isn't funny! Hopefully by mid summer I can get some 35s under the old wagon. See you soon!

You will be hard pressed to run reversed front springs without taking off at least the downward curve of the front fenders.

You will also need some nice long bumpstops, mine are 3" from the front axle, but I still get full articulation.

Gumbo Mudders are fine, they just have weaker sidewalls than Swampers.

Here is a shot of how I did my new fenders, keep in mind, I not only flipped my front springs, I also moved all of my mounting points 4" forward on the frame so my front tires will stick out farther than yours do.

Eric, they are bias ply but I really don't care I was planning on getting bias ply swampers anyway, but 38" tires with wheels for $350 is hard to pass up. Yes, my 33x12.5s are for sale, with 15x8 black rock crawlers (mini truck b/s but they fit fine with 1/4" spacers which I have).

Nolen, thanks for the advice, I like how you cut your fenders, they still have a rolled edge which looks good. I am thinking I might go straight up with my fenders and take some height out of the aprons.

3.75" backspacing on those wheels? Hmmm! When you going to be around? I need to make a trip to come see your project. If you move the fenders up won't you need to make new inner fenders or lengthen them too. I like the idea. I'm just having a hard time visualizing it right now. I guess it is Friday and my mind is dead.
